How the Crochet Along Works:

Beginning October 6th, I will release one new crochet beanie pattern each week for four weeks.  All you have to do is keep checking back here on richtexturescrochet.com for the new pattern, make the pattern and then share your accomplishment with others!

The hat patterns will be published here on richtexturescrochet.com as follows:

October 6th: The Winterberry Beanie

October 13th: Prairie Beanie

October 20th: Mountain Ridge Beanie

October 27th: Grand Canyon Beanie

In order that you do not miss a pattern I recommend that you sign up for my email newsletter – I will send out a new email as new patterns and stitch tutorials are published!

You will also want to connect on social media! four crochet hats

The Patterns:

The four crochet patterns will be released one a week here on my blog for free.  And THEY WILL ALWAYS BE FREE here, even after the crochet along has ended.  So if you are unable to complete one of the hats during the month, no worries! Everyone can work at the own pace and share later.

Each hat pattern can be worked using only one ball of yarn! I will be using the Wool Ease yarn by Lion Brand Yarn.  It is an acrylic wool blended yarn.  It is a worsted weight, so if you would like to substitute this yarn for another you may do so! I will post the exact yarn and colour that I’ve used for heat hat below.

With the yarn, I am working with a 5mm crochet hook.  In the video tutorials (each hat pattern will feature a full video tutorial!), I will be using a Wooden Streamline hook in Ebony by Furls Crochet.

Materials for each Hat:

October 6th: Winterberry Beanie – Wool-Ease® by Lion Brand® Yarn (80% acrylic; 20% wool; 197 yds/180 m; 3oz/85 g; (4) Medium/worsted weight): Colour A: 1/2 ball of Canyon Sunset; Colour B: 1/2 ball of Fisherman.

October 13th: Prairie Beanie – Wool-Ease® by Lion Brand® Yarn (80% acrylic; 20% wool; 197 yds/180 m; 3oz/85 g; (4) Medium/worsted weight): Colour A: 1/2 ball of Grey Heather; Colour B: 1/2 ball of Fisherman.

October 20th: Mountain Ridge Beanie – Wool-Ease® by Lion Brand® Yarn (80% acrylic; 20% wool; 197 yds/180 m; 3oz/85 g; (4) Medium/worsted weight): 1 ball of Stillwater.

October 27th: Grand Canyon Beanie – Wool-Ease® by Lion Brand® Yarn (80% acrylic; 20% wool; 197 yds/180 m; 3oz/85 g; (4) Medium/worsted weight): 1 ball of Antler.

And don’t forget your 5mm crochet hook!

Pro Tips!

A couple things to be aware of with these hats:

  • All the hats are all worked from the bottom up! This is my favourite way to work a hat as it creates a nice shape that holds well.
  • All of the hat brims are worked the exact same way! If you are someone who likes to work ahead, once you are finished the first hat you can work your brims for the next three!
  • Each Hat looks great with a pompom or without! Customize it to give a unique, personalized look! I have made pompoms out of yarn for each beanie – the only one that needed a little of an extra ball was the Mountain Ridge Beanie.

Hat Sizing!

Each of the hats are sized to fit an adult.  That being said, for each pattern I will include the multiples of the first round so that you may adjust the size of your beanie.

Please note: Everyone crochets with a different tension and things like the yarn and even hook brand can affect the overall size of your beanie (even if you are using a #4 medium worsted weight yarn and 5mm hook).  For this reason, I will also include in the pattern the gauge.  The gauge will tell you how many stitches and rows of those stitches I get when I work the pattern.  If you do not get the same number of stitches, your hat may be larger or smaller.  Sometimes it is only a quick fix! If you are getting fewer stitches in a 4 inch square than I am, all you may need to do is grab a smaller hook.  And vice versa.  If this is still not working, you may use the stitch multiples in each pattern to adjust.

But wait! Did I say BONUS patterns?

I did! Last year when I did the crochet along I found many of you were also excited to create a scarf to go along with your new beanie.  So this year I have also designed 4 NEW scarf patterns that will be released the Friday after the coordinating beanie!

The scarf patterns will be published here on richtexturescrochet.com as follows:

October 8th: Winterberry Scarf which will require an additional 2 balls of Fisherman and one of Canyon Sunset

October 15th: Prairie Scarf which will require an additional 2 balls of Fisherman and 2 balls of Grey Heather

October 22nd: Mountain Ridge Scarf will require an additional 3 balls in the colour Stillwater

October 29th: Grand Canyon Scarf will require an additional 2 balls of grey heather and 2 balls of Antler

And that’s it for now!

I’m excited! And I hope you are also! I look forward to seeing you onOctober 6th! Until then, if you would like to check out last years beanie patterns, you can find them here: Hats, hats, Wonderful Hats! Free Crochet Along

Happy Crocheting!
