Hi, and welcome to Rich Textures Crochet! I first learned to crochet as a teenager. My mother taught me some basic stitches in order to make a blanket that I entered into our local fair. I remember it was white with popcorn stitches. We used it for years as a throw to cover our couch. I am not sure, but I think my parents still have it stashed somewhere! It wasn’t until years later, I was in my first year of graduate studies, when I was retaught by a woman at a church I was attending in Northern New Brunswick. She taught me some foundation stitches and technique, and then how to read a pattern. Once I knew how to read a pattern I loved the challenge of working on a variety of projects, and knew that I could make anything.
Now, more than 12 years later, hardly a day goes by when I don’t have a hook in my hand. In 2016 I began selling my handicrafts both locally and on Etsy. Starting in 2017, at the encouragement of my husband I began publishing some of my own designs and patterns. It is my hope to share some of them with you here, along with tips, challenges and techniques.
The other feature of this blog will be it’s commitment to Canadian content. In Canada we are rich with a variety of diverse, talented and beautiful crochet designers and fibre artists. Here, I would like to share with you some of the ones I have discovered, both in person and across the internet.
So thank you for joining me and I hope you enjoy the site!
