A little while ago, while shopping at my local craft store, I came across a 35 mm crochet hook! I couldn’t resist, and then, naturally, had to buy the yarn to go with it.
A few years ago now I started seeing blankets made with a jumbo weight yarn. I was instantly drawn to them! I love the boldness of them and the chunky texture, not to mention how cozy they looked!
I knew the roving wool yarns would not be a good match for my household though with four young kids and an energetic dog also calling it home. But I was quite excited when I discovered the Bernat Blanket Big yarn at my local Michaels store.
Bernat Blanket Big:
The Bernat Blanket Big yarn is a 100% polyester yarn which means I can wash and dry as needed. And I don’t have to worry about it fraying!
The Two Hour C2C Throw is an easy design. The final blanket measures approximately 54 x 54 inches, although with more yarn you can make it as big as you would like!
The design is made up of single crochet stitches that are worked in the back loop only.
For the decrease rows you will need to work single crochet two and three stitches together.
The end result is so cozy!

Two Hour C2C Crochet Blanket
Skill Level: Easy
Gauge: 2 sts x 2 rows = 4 inches
Finished Size: Approximately 54 x 54 inches
Yarn: Bernat ® Blanket Big by Yarnspirations (100% Polyester; 10.5 oz, 300 g; Approx. 32 yds, 29 m). Jumbo Weight (7). 9 balls of colour Teal.
Hook: Size 35 mm Hook. Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.
Notions: Yarn Needle.
Pattern Notes:
- Pattern is written in American English terms.
- Pattern is worked in rows, corner to corner (diagonally).
- Weave in ends as needed.
Stitches and Abbreviations:
Blo – Back Loop Only
Ch – Chain
Rpt – Repeat
Sc – Single Crochet
Sc2tog – Single Crochet two stitches together
Sc3tog – Single Crochet three stitches together
Sk – Skip
Sl St – Slip Stitch
Yo – Yarn Over
Free Crochet Pattern:
Ch 2.
Row 1: In the 2nd ch from hook work 3 sc; Ch 1, turn. (3 sc)
Row 2: Working in the blo, 2 sc in the 1st st, sc in the next st, 2 sc in the last st; Ch 1, turn. (5 sc)
Row 3: Working in the blo, 2 sc in the 1st st, sc in the next st and each st across to the final st, 2 sc in the last st; Ch 1, turn. (7 sc)
Rows 4-19: Repeat row 3 until you have a total of 37 sts in a row.
Row 20: sc2tog, sc in the next st and in each across to the final 2 sts, sc2tog in the last 2 sts; Ch 1, turn.
Continue to repeat row 20 until you have 3 sts remaining.
Last row: Sc3tog
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Edging:
Join yarn with a sl st in the top right corner.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, work one round of sc all the way around, working 3 sc in each corner. Join with a sl st in the first st.
Fasten off, weave in ends.

Greetings! Regarding your BEAUTIFUL C2C Crochet Blanket, I would I change color? I absolutely love the design! Also, I could not get my hands on the Bernat Big, so I am using Red Heart Irresistable ( also a Super Chunky-7 on an “irresistable” sale!) with a 25 mm hook (35 mm next time!). I hope that this does not change things too much? Thank-you for your help!
It doesn’t too much! Just continue your increase rows until it’s the desired size 🙂

How many balls would you say are needed for the edge, if I wanted to do a contrast color?

Hi Sarah, love your work, thank you! Just a comment. I assume this pattern is entirely blo, but in the instructions, it does not say blo in the decreasing rows? Why would we switch from blo in the decreasing rows? Thank you, Derrie
What is the stitch pattern repeat if I’m wanting to change the blanket dimensions?
For this pattern you will keep working the increase rows until you reach the desired width, then start the decrease rows
Hi Sarah…My grandkids just gave me some jumbo #7 yarn for my birthday. I found your 2 hour C2C blanket pattern and fell in love with it (I love doing C2C)! However, finding a 35 mm hook is a challenge! You mentioned that you got yours at your local craft store. Could I get the name and email address of the store? I would like to ask them if they still have these hooks and if I could order one from them. I’d rather shop Canadian if possible than shop Amazon!! Hi Sarah! My son has asked me to crochet a blanket for his dorm room bed and picked your pattern! However, since I need it to be twin size, I’m trying to figure out how to change it from a square to a rectangle. Any advice on how to do this?
