The Downtown Market Bag is pretty and practical! The stitches that make up the bag are fun to work and feature some fun texture!

The stitch featured in this bag is called the Triad Stitch, and it is wonderful to work! If it’s your first time encountering this stitch, no worries! I describe it under the “Stitches and Abbreviations” down below and you will see it at work in the video tutorial.  It’s a combination of a puff stitch and a cluster stitch.  And it creates a beautiful and unique texture.

Fall Marvellous Market Bag Crochet Along:

Welcome to week four of the Fall Marvellous Market Bag Crochet Along! If this is your first time hearing of the crochet along, you can catch all of the details here: Fall 2022 Market Bag Crochet Along.  To date we have made three crochet market bags, each is constructed in a similar way, but uses different stitches which gives them a unique look.  I have really loved seeing all of the finished Market Bags thus far!

The Construction:

Each of the crochet market bags are worked from the bottom up.  They are worked as one piece and seamless, even up into the continuous handles.

When working the Downtown Market bag, I do recommend using a 100% cotton yarn.  It holds up quite well under stress, comes in a variety of colours, and will not stretch and lose its shape as an acrylic will. I have worked the bag using two different colours of a worsted weight 100% cotton yarn called Pima Cotton by Lion Brand Yarn.  I invite you to switch up the colours as you are inspired.  In the video tutorial below you will also see me using a 5 mm Birchwood Crochet Hook by Rowan Yarns.
