If you are looking for a stitch that loves to show off colour in your next project, you will love the thick and beautiful texture in this Spiked V stitch crochet pattern!

Crochet spike stitches are a great way to create depth and texture in a crochet pattern. Not only do they add to create thickness in a pattern, but when worked in multiple colours they can create layers in a project.

In a crochet pattern a spiked stitch is simply a stitch that is worked over and around the stitch in the previous row and into a space 2 or more rows below. In our Spiked V stitch pattern today, single crochet stitches are worked over the previous row and into a space under a stitch two rows below.

By alternating colours every few rows, the spiked v stitches really start to pop and create a mesmerizing design.

One thing to note with this stitch when you are using it in a project that it is quite thick and dense which some may find makes their project stiff.

The Materials:

For this tutorial today, I will be using a small amount of Heatherly by KnitPicks and WeCrochet in a single colour. It is a medium/worsted weight yarn that is a wool blend. Along with my worsted weight yarn, I will also be working with a 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook.

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in two colours labelled colour A and colour B.

This pattern is written in American crochet terms.

To begin, make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch, you will need a multiple of three stitches for your foundation chain.

For example, ch 30.
