If you are looking for a unique, thick texture for your next crochet blanket, you will want to check out this Raised Crossed Ripple Stitch crochet pattern!
The Raised Crossed Ripple stitch has no shortage of texture. Once the stitch pattern is set up, it is an easy two-row repeat that would make a gorgeous thick blanket.
A couple of things to note about this pattern are that the texture is all to the front side and that due to the way that the stitches are worked, it may curl up a bit if worked in a lighter weight yarn.

The pattern is a two-row repeat. Every second row is a return row of single crochet stitches. Every first row is a row of crossed double crochet stitches where the second “leg” of the crossed double crochet is a front post stitch. This creates the raised ripple texture and because all of the post stitches are on the front, it can cause it to curl.
There are a couple of ways you can adjust your tension, however, if you find that it is curling too much. The first is to simply be aware that when you draw up the loop of the front post double crochet, you pull it to the height of your first double crochet stitch. The other option is that you work a front post extended double crochet stitch which will also ease the tension in the stitches. Either way would work wonderfully!

The Materials:
For this tutorial today, I will be using a small amount of Heatherly by KnitPicks and WeCrochet in a single colour. You are also able to work this stitch in a single colour or more. The Heatherly yarn is a medium/worsted weight yarn that is a wool blend. Along with my worsted weight yarn, I will also be working with a 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook.

Pattern Notes:
This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a single colour.
This pattern is written in American crochet terms.
To begin, make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch pattern, you will need a multiple of three chains for your foundation chain.
Your chain three at the beginning of a row counts as a double crochet stitch which means that when you come to the turning ch-3 at the end of the row, be sure to work into it.
For example, ch 21.
Row One:
Sc in the 2nd ch from your hook and in each ch across. Ch 3 (counts as a dc here and throughout), turn.
Row Two:
*Sk the next 2 sts, dc in the next st, ch 1, dc back into the previous 1st skipped st; rpt from * across ending with a dc in the final st. Ch 1, turn.
Row Three:
Sc in the 1st st and in each st and ch-1 space across. Ch 3, turn.
Row Four:
*Sk the next 2 sts, dc in the next st, ch 1, fpdc back into the dc UNDER the previous 1st skipped st 2 rows below; rpt from * across ending with a dc in the final st. Ch 1, turn.
And that’s it!
For the rest of the pattern, simply repeat rows three and four. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
