The Diagonal Triple Stitch is a neat looking textured fabric.  It is deceiving in that the diagonal texture looks like popcorns or bobbles, but it’s so much easier!

A little while back I posted a tutorial on my YouTube channel for a Faux Popcorn Stitch.  This stitch is worked in a similar way, but lines the faux popcorn stitches up on the diagonal instead of staggering them.  The result is an easy way of making a fabric look like it has cables.

The crochet diagonal triple stitch worked in a grey yarn

I’m not going to lie, this pattern has quite a few steps or rows before you reach the repeat in the pattern, but the wait is worth it! I love the texture in this stitch and can’t wait to see how you use it.

Materials for this Tutorial:

For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Pima Cotton Yarn by Lion Brand Yarn in a single colour. It is a worsted weight yarn. The hook shown in the video below is a 5 mm birchwood crochet hook by Rowan Yarns.  However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose, even experiment with colour!

Thank you so much for stopping by! If you enjoy the tutorial below, be sure to also check out some of the many other crochet stitch tutorials on my site and pin this for later! You may wish to start with the Cone Stitch | How to Crochet.

The Diagonal Triple Stitch:

Abbreviations:

Ch – Chain

Rpt – Repeat

Sc – Single Crochet

Sk – Skip

Sl St – Slip Stitch

Tr – Triple/Treble Stitch

Yo – Yarn Over

Notes:

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial. You may work the stitch in one colour or many.  I will be working the design in a solid colour.

To begin, make a slip knot and then chain your desired number of chains.  For this stitch pattern you will need a multiple of six stitches, plus three for your foundation chain (6 + 3).

For example, ch 27.

Row One:

Sc in the 2nd chain from your hook and in each st across.  Ch 1, turn.

Row Two:

Sc in the 1st st, *tr in the next st, sc in the next st, tr in the next st, sc in each of the next 3 sts; rpt from * across, sc in the final st.  Ch 1, turn.

Row Three:

Sc in the 1st st and in each st across.  Ch 1, turn.

Row Four:

Sc in each of the 1st 2 sts, *tr in the next st, sc in the next st, tr in the next st, sc in each of the next 3 sts; rpt from * across.  Ch 1, turn.

Row Five:

Sc in the 1st st and in each st across.  Ch 1, turn.

Row Six:

Sc in each of the 1st 3 sts, *tr in the next st, sc in the next st, tr in the next st, sc in each of the next 3 sts; rpt from * across ending with a sc in each of the final 2 sts.  Ch 1, turn.

Row Seven:

Sc in the 1st st and in each st across.  Ch 1, turn.

Row Eight:

Sc in each of the 1st 4 sts, *tr in the next st, sc in the next st, tr in the next st, sc in each of the next 3 sts; rpt from * across ending with a sc in the final st.  Ch 1, turn.

Row Nine:

Sc in the 1st st and in each st across.  Ch 1, turn.

Row Ten:

Sc in 1st st, tr in the next st, sc in each of the next 3 sts, *tr in the next st, sc in the next st, tr in the next st, sc in each of the next 3 sts; rpt from * across ending with a sc in each of the final 2 sts.  Ch 1, turn.

Row Eleven:

Sc in the 1st st and in each st across.  Ch 1, turn.

Row Twelve:

Sc in each of the 1st 2 sts, tr in the next st, sc in each of the next 3 sts, *tr in the next st, sc in the next st, tr in the next st, sc in each of the next 3 sts; rpt from * across ending with a sc in the final st.  Ch 1, turn.

Row Thirteen:

Sc in the 1st st and in each st across.  Ch 1, turn.

And that’s it (Which was a lot)!

Repeat rows two through to row thirteen for the pattern!  Fasten off and weave in your ends.
