The Orchid Blanket crochet pattern is a beautiful, cozy blanket with a classic look and design, perfect for any setting.
Not too long ago I came across the Caron Cloud Cakes Perfect Phasing yarn at my local Michael’s store. They are wonderfully soft and I love the slow progression of colour from dark to light. It looks stunning when worked in a larger project such as a blanket.

The Orchid Blanket crochet pattern is worked all as one piece. I have used only four of the Caron Cloud cakes and worked a smaller throw sized blanket measuring about 48 x 50 inches.
For the blanket you will work along the short edge and crochet one of my favourite stitch patterns: The Elizabeth or Mini Bean Stitch. Once the blanket is worked to the desired length you will add a simple edging to each end.

What Materials do you need to make this crochet blanket?
For the project, which measures approximately 48 inches by 50 inches, I used four of the Perfect Phasing Caron Cloud Cakes by Yarnspirations available at Michaels. The colour changes in the yarn is such that is flows smoothly from the dark shade to the light. The cakes are conveniently all structured the same way with the dark at the centre.
When attaching a new cake of yarn you will simply begin unravelling the cake at the colour where you left off on your blanket.
To start my blanket, I started first with the darker gold colour and moved to the light. When it came to joining the next cake, instead of pulling from the centre, I started at the outside edge so that the colours flowed smoothly from dark to light and then to dark again. I finished off the blanket with the darker gold colour.
Along with the four cakes of yarn, I opted for a 5 mm crochet hook.

- Pattern is written in American English terms.
- Pattern is worked in rows.
- Ch 1 at beginning of row does not count as stitch.
- Weave in ends as needed.
- To change the size of your blanket you will need an even multiple stitches for your foundation chain.
- NOTE ABOUT ADDING NEW BALL OF YARN: To achieve the colour phasing so that it moves from dark to light, to dark again, when adding the new ball of yarn you will continue from the end (either middle or outside) that has the same colour you left off on. For example, if you finished off on the white colour, you will join your new cake of yarn starting from the outside white colour and continue into the dark. And vice versa if you end off on the darker centre colour.
