Welcome to week six of the 2025 Make it Your Way Crochet Along! Today we are going to join our squares together to create our stitch sampler blanket.

On Friday, after our squares are joined I will post two options for a blanket edging that is really going to set the textures in your stitch sampler blanket off.

Typically, when I join stitch sampler squares together I enjoy crocheting them together and using a bold, solid join that really helps to set off the colours and textures.

To achieve this look, I simply use a row of single crochet worked in the back loops only of my squares. There are many different ways, however, to join blanket squares. So if you are working the Make it your Way crochet along and have another favourite way to join, go for it!

The Make it Your Way Crochet Along:

Welcome to the final week of the Make it Your Way event! If this is your first time hearing about this event, don’t worry, it has been designed to that you may work at your own pace and the crochet along patterns will remain here for free on my Website and the PDFs available in my Etsy and Ravelry shops.

Thus far in the crochet along you will have selected five blanket square patterns that we will be joining to create your own unique stitch sampler blanket. You will have worked four squares in each of the five patterns for a total of 20 squares.

If this is your first time hearing about the Make it Your Way Crochet Along, you will want to check out the Introduction and Materials post. Each week, during this event, I will provide two options for a crochet afghan square. You will choose one of the patterns, make four squares in each and at the end we will join the all together. You will then have your very own, beautiful stitch sampler blanket!

The Materials:

For the crochet along I have encouraged you to choose a favourite medium/worsted weight yarn – it can be new to your or from your stash, but choose a favourite! For my blanket I used two different colours, working two squares in each colour.

For the joining and edging, I chose my darkest colour present in the blanket and used it to really set the other colours off.

For my blanket I will be using the Pound of Love yarn by Lion Brand Yarn. You will also need a 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook.

Now that we have all of our squares worked, let’s join them together!

Joining your Squares Together:

Arrange squares in the desired order in a 4 block by 5 block grid with four blocks along the top and five blocks down the side. The entire blanket requires 20 12 x 12 blocks.

Join colour A with a sl st under both loops at the end of any row.

Working through both thickness, with the right side of your squares facing, sc in the blo of each st (Picking up the blo of each st across from each other in each square) all the way across. When you come to the end of a square, pick up the next square in the row and continue working single crochet across.

I prefer to work all of my vertical rows first, followed by my horizontal rows.  While working the horizontal rows, when you come to the next block, simply skip the already worked seam and continue to single crochet across.

Repeat this until all squares have been joined, both horizontal rows and vertical rows.
