Learn to crochet the ever popular Bean Stitch crochet pattern with its beautiful and plush bean stitches.
The bean stitch crochet pattern is a beloved crochet stitch and it’s easy to see why. The stitch is thick and unique in texture. It has an easy rhythm to it when working it and it is easily adaptable to include in a wide variety of patterns.
I have used adaptations of this stitch in several crochet patterns including the Braided Puff Stitch Beanie and the Braided Puff Stitch Cowl. You can also use it in crochet bags and blankets.

The Materials:
For this tutorial today, I will be using a small amount of Heatherly by KnitPicks and WeCrochet in a single colour. It is a medium/worsted weight yarn that is a wool blend. Along with my worsted weight yarn, I will also be working with a 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook.

HAVE YOU HEARD? I have a new book out including 102 crochet stitches focused on texture and colour! If you love learning new crochet stitches, this book is for you! It is available on Amazon in ebook, paperback and hardcover formats. Learn more about it here: Intermediate Crochet Stitches

Pattern Notes:
This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a single colour.
This pattern is written in American crochet terms.
To begin, make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch, you will need a multiple of two stitches for your foundation chain.
For example, ch 30.
Row One:
Bean St in the 4th ch from your hook, *ch 1, sk the next ch, bean st in the next st; Rpt from * across. Ch 3, turn.
Row Two:
Sk the 1st bean st, bean st in the next ch-1 sp, *ch 1, sk the next bean st, bean st in the next ch-1 sp; Rpt from * across working the final bean st in the ch-3 sp at the end of the row. Ch 3, turn.
And that’s it!
For the rest of the pattern repeat row 2 for as long as you would like. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
