Welcome to week one of the Make it Your Way Crochet Along where you will design and make your very own stitch sampler blanket!
But don’t worry, you won’t be left to make it all on your own. The Make it Your Way Crochet Along is a blanket crochet along featuring ten different crochet stitch patterns – from which you can choose five or more, or less! It’s up to you.
If this is your first time hearing about this crochet along, you may wish to start with the Introductory post where I discuss all of the necessary materials. It’s not too late to join in! The afghan square crochet patterns will remain up here for free on Rich Textures Crochet long after the event is finished!

About the Square:
Option one for this first week of the crochet along is this beautiful Herringbone Ribbing Afghan Square crochet pattern. I love this stitch. It is easy to work, features a great solid texture that is the same on both sides. It works so well in blankets! Although it creates a solid fabric, the fabric is not too stiff but has a beautiful drape to it. It’s so cozy.

HAVE YOU HEARD? I have a new book out including 102 crochet stitches focused on texture and colour! If you love learning new crochet stitches, this book is for you! It is available on Amazon in ebook, paperback and hardcover formats. Learn more about it here: Intermediate Crochet Stitches
The Materials:
For the crochet along I have encouraged you to choose a favourite medium/worsted weight yarn – it can be new to your or from your stash, but choose a favourite! For my blanket I used two different colours, working two squares in each colour. For your finished blanket you will need a total of four squares. This square will be found in the final pattern for the Tranquil Blue Blanket.
Each square will be designed in a worsted/medium weight yarn. For my blanket I will be using the Pound of Love yarn by Lion Brand Yarn. You will also need a 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook.
Stay tuned! Option B will be available on Friday!

PDF Copies now available:
The crochet patterns for each of the squares in these blankets can be found here on Rich Textures Crochet and will always remain free to follow here on my website. - This pattern is written in American crochet terms.
- The crochet square motifs are all worked in rows and finished off with a round of single crochet edging.
- Ch 1 at the beginning of a row/round does not count as a stitch.
- You will make 4 squares (Two in both colour A and B) of each pattern for the blanket.
- Once 20 squares are complete they are crocheted together in a 4 x 5 grid. A simple edging is worked around the outer edge.
