The Opal Stitch crochet pattern creates a fabric with a subtle texture suitable for a wide range of crochet patterns.
The solid fabric is not too dense and the texture is all to the front side, although the back is pretty also!
To work the pattern you will alternate between rows of single crochet stitches and then rows featuring a mini bean stitch. The mini bean stitch is the same found in the popular Elizabeth Stitch crochet pattern.
It’s an easy two-row repeat that I am sure you’ll love!

Materials:
Today I will be using the Dishie Cotton by WeCrochet in the video tutorial below. It is a wonderfully soft 100% cotton yarn. Along with the yarn you will need a 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook.
Opal Stitch Crochet Pattern:

Ch – Chain

Rpt – Repeat
Sc – Single Crochet
Sk – Skip
Sl st – Slip stitch
Sp – Space
Yo – Yarn over
Pattern Notes:
This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a single colour.
This pattern is written in American crochet terms.
The turning ch-1 does not count as a stitch.
To begin, make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch pattern, you will need a foundation chain with an even number of stitches (Multiple of 2).
For example, ch 30.
Row One:
Sc in the 2nd ch from your hook and into each st across. Ch 1, turn.
Row Two:
Sc in the 1st st, *mini bean st in the next st (See “Stitches and Abbreviations”), sc in the next st; Rpt from * across ending with an sc in the final st. Ch 1, turn.
Row Three:
Sc in the 1st st and in each st across. Ch 1, turn.
And that’s it!
For the rest of the pattern, simply repeat rows two and three. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
