The Elizabeth Stitch crochet pattern is one of those classic stitch patterns that everyone loves, and it is easy to see why!

The Elizabeth Stitch (sometimes called the “Mini Bean Stitch” has an easy rhythm to it as you work it. The fabric that it creates is thick with lots of texture! It is a popular stitch for blankets, washcloths, bags, crochet apparel and more! I used it years ago in my ever popular Elizabeth Beanie Crochet Pattern. It’s just a wonderful stitch to work. If you have not tried this stitch before, you are going to love it.

The Elizabeth Stitch crochet pattern is a simple one row repeat once you get the pattern set up. It is constructed by working little bean stitches which are a slight modification on a puff stitch. I will show you in the video tutorial below!

Materials for this Tutorial:

For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of the Basic Stitch Anti Pilling yarn by Lion Brand. It is a soft worsted weight 100% acrylic yarn. The hook shown in the video below is a 5 mm Birchwood Crochet Hook by Rowan Yarn – one of my favourites!  However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose.

Thank you so much for stopping by! If you enjoy the tutorial below, be sure to also check out some of the many other crochet stitch tutorials on my site and pin this for later! You may wish to start with the Slanted Clusters Stitch | How to Crochet.

Pattern Notes:

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a single colour.

This pattern is written using American crochet terms.

To begin make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch you will need a multiple of 4 stitches for your foundation chain.

For example, ch 32.

Row One:

Bean in the 4th ch from your hook, *ch 1, sk the next ch, bean in the next st; Rpt from * across. Ch 3, turn.

Row Two:

Sk the first bean, *bean in the next ch-1 sp, sk the next bean; Rpt from * across ending with a bean in the final ch-3 sp. Ch 3, turn.

And that’s it!

It’s so easy – for the rest of the pattern simply repeat row two for as long as you would like. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
