The Houndstooth Cowl crochet pattern features the beautiful colour work of the houndstooth stitch pattern.
This stitch pattern is so much easier than it looks! You may have seen this stitch pattern earlier in my Houndstooth Beanie pattern. This crochet cowl was design to complement it!
I love the classic look of the houndstooth stitch pattern. And it is created simply by alternating single crochet and double crochet stitches and then alternating rows between two different colours. When you work the pattern in two highly contrasting colours, the stitch pattern really stands out.
This crochet cowl is worked all as one piece from the bottom to the top. It features an edging around the top and the bottom of front and back post double crochet stitches. It gives it an extra measure of interest and texture. Enjoy!
Materials:
For the Houndstooth Cowl crochet pattern, I will be working with two colours of a worsted weight yarn. In the photos and in the video tutorial I am using the Color Theory Yarn by Lion Brand Yarn. It is super soft and 100% acrylic. I will note that although this yarn is classified as a worsted/medium weight, I do find it works up a little on the lighter side. Keep this in mind as if you substitute the yarn for another medium weight yarn you may need to adjust the number of stitches in your cowl. For this pattern you will also need a 4.5 mm crochet hook.
