Welcome to week four of the Wonderful Hats Crochet Along where we will learn to crochet the Cedarwood Beanie!

Just like the Ainsley Beanie Crochet Pattern last week, this crochet hat features a lot of texture! This texture resembles a herringbone or an arrowhead design.  It is created by working some textured mixed cluster stitches which I will explain how to work in the “Stitches and Abbreviations” section below and, of course, in my video tutorial.

A textured crochet beanie worked in green yarn

This Cedarwood Beanie is the fourth crochet beanie in the 2023 Wonderful Hats Crochet along.  Like the other hats, this one is worked from the brim up and looks great with a pompom or without.  Come back on Friday and you can get the pattern for the matching cowl!

Pattern Notes:

  • Pattern is written in American English terms.
  • Brim of hat is worked in rows, body of hat is worked in rounds.
  • Ch 1 at beginning of round does not count as stitch.
  • Turn your work as indicated.
  • Weave in ends as needed.
  • OPTIONAL: Brim of hat may be worked using either single crochet stitches or half double crochet stitches instead of the slip stitches.
  • To change the size of your beanie, you will need a multiple of 11 stitches for the first round of the hat body.

Free Crochet Pattern:

Ch 13

Row 1: Sl st in the 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across.  Ch 1, turn.  (12 sl sts)

Continue to repeat row 2 until work from the beginning measures approximately 16-17 inches.

Do not fasten off, but fold brim of hat so that two shorter ends meet. Now working through both thicknesses, sl st across working through the blo on each side. Do not fasten off.  Turn work right side out (so that the right side is facing you and the slip stitch seam is on the inside).
