The Cedarwood Cowl crochet pattern is the perfect cowl to complement your Cedarwood crochet beanie!

The Cedarwood Cowl is part of the fourth set in the 2023 Wonderful Hats Crochet Along.  All of the hat and scarf patterns in this crochet along will remain free here on Rich Textures Crochet and I look forward to seeing your finished products!

This crochet cowl is worked from the bottom up and all as one piece.  The seam that runs up the side of the cowl is well hidden in the texture of the cowl.  Below I have worked it to fit an adult, with a loose fit around the neck.  If you would like to change the length of the cowl, you will find the multiples for the beginning foundation chain below.

Cedarwood Cowl Crochet Pattern:

Skill Level: Intermediate

Gauge: 17 sts x 16 rows of sc = 4 inches

Finished Size: 8.5 x 14 inches laid flat

Yarn: Impeccable by Loops & Threads ® (100% acrylic; 285 yds/260 m; 4.5oz/127.5 g; (4) Medium/worsted weight): 2 balls per cowl.

Hook: Size H/8 (5 mm) Hook. Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain correct gauge

 

Stitches and Abbreviations:

Blo  Back Loop Only

Ch – Chain

Dc – Double Crochet

Dchdc Cl – Double Crochet Half Double Crochet Cluster (Yo, counting back 2 sts, bring your hook in front of your work and insert your hook around the post of the 1st st of the set of two sts, yo, draw up a loop.  Yo and pull through 2 loops.  Yo insert your hook into the top of the next st, yo and draw through all the loops on your hook.  Double half double crochet cluster made.)

Fpdc – Front Post Double Crochet

Fpdc2tog – Front Post Double Crochet Two Stitches Together

Hdc – Half Double Crochet

Hdc2tog – Half Double Crochet Two Stitches Together

Hdcdc Cl – Half Double Crochet Double Crochet Cluster (yo, insert your hook into the next st, yo and draw up a loop.  Yo, counting ahead 2 sts, bring your hook in front of your work and insert your hook around the post of the 2nd st of the set of two sts, yo, draw up a loop.  Yo and pull through 2 loops, yo and pull through the final loops on your hook.  Half double crochet double crochet cluster made.)

Hdctr Cl – Half Double Crochet Triple Cluster (yo, insert your hook into the next st, yo and draw up a loop.  Yo twice, counting ahead 3 sts, bring your hook in front of your work and insert your hook around the post of the 3rd st of the set of three sts, yo, draw up a loop.  Yo and pull through 2 loops two times, yo and pull through the final loops on your hook.  Half double crochet triple cluster made.)

Pattern Notes:

  • Pattern is written in American English terms.
  • Ch 1 at beginning of round does not count as stitch.
  • Turn your work as indicated.
  • Weave in ends as needed. 
  • To change the size of your cowl, you will need a multiple of 11 stitches for the first round.

 

Free Crochet Pattern (worked in rounds):

Ch 110.  Being careful not to twist the chain, join with a sl st in the 1st st.

Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as a dc), dc in each st around, join with a sl st in the 3rd ch of the starting ch, do not turn. (110 sts)

Rnds 2-4: Ch 1, fpdc in the 1st st, dc in the next st, *fpdc in the next st, bpdc in the next st; rpt from * around, join with a sl st in the 1st st.

Rnd 5: Ch 3 (counts as a dc), dc in the next st and in each st around, join with a sl st in the top of the starting ch-3. 

Rnd 6: Ch 1, fpdc in each of the first 3 sts, *hdc in each of the next 3 sts, trhdc cl (See “Stitches and Abbreviations”) in the next st, hdctr cl (See “Stitches and Abbreviations”) in the next st, hdc in each of the next 3 sts, fpdc in each of the next 3 sts; Rpt from * around, join with a sl st in the 1st st.

Rnds 7-20: Repeat rnd 6 fourteen more times.

Rnd 21: Ch 3 (counts as a dc), dc in the next st and in each st around, join with a sl st in the 1st st. 

Rnds 22-24: Ch 1, fpdc in the 1st st, dc in the next st, *fpdc in the next st, bpdc in the next st; rpt from * around, join with a sl st in the 1st st.

Fasten off, weave in your ends.
