Hi, and welcome to day five of the Spring Cleaning Free Crochet Pattern Blitz! Today I’d like to introduce you to the Jasmine Washcloth.
Jasmine has to be one of my favourite scents. The plant itself features pretty little flowers that are very fragrant. This stitch reminds me of those little flowers, and it makes for a pretty washcloth.
The puff stitches that make up the jasmine star stitch create a plush washcloth with great texture and flexibility. The cloth is great for a multiple of uses, from washing dishes to the bath.
For this project you will need some of your favourite crochet cotton and a 5 mm crochet hook. For assistance with the pattern, be sure to check out the video tutorial at the end of this pattern.

Skill Level: Intermediate
Gauge: 16 Sc x 16 rows = 4 inches.
Finished Size: 7.5 x 7.5 inches
Yarn: Approximately 56 yards of Bernat Handicrafter Cotton™ (100% cotton; solids: 50 g / 1.75 oz, 73 meters / 80 yards; 4 – Medium/Worsted weight).
Hook: Size H/8 (5 mm). Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.
Notions: Yarn Needle
Stitches and Abbreviation:
Ch – chain
Puff – ch 1, pull loop so it is slightly longer, yo, insert hook in first ch/st, draw up a loop (3 Loops on Hook), holding back your working yarn slightly, yo and draw through all 3 Loops on Hook, make a Sc by inserting hook under loop of working yarn you held back and draw up a loop (2 Loops on Hook), yo and pull through 2 Loops on Hook (Sc).
Puff cluster – worked over the first 3 Sc – yo, insert in first Sc and draw up a loop, yo, insert hook in 2nd Sc and draw up a loop twice, yo, insert hook in 3rd Sc and draw up a loop twice (11 Loops on Hook). Holding back your working yarn slightly, yo and draw through all Loops on Hook, make a Sc by inserting hook under loop of working yarn you held back and draw up a loop (2 Loops on Hook), yo and pull through 2 Loops on Hook (Sc).
Rpt – repeat
Sc – Single Crochet
Sl st – slip stitch
Yo – yarn over
Pattern Notes:
- Pattern is written in American English terms
- Weave in ends as needed
Pattern:
Make a loose slip knot.
Foundation Row: Work 10 puff sts. Ch 1, lengthen loop ( this will get you ready to work back across your work). Do not turn. (10 puff sts)
Row 1: work 9 puff clusters across, complicating last cluster in first ch. ch 1, extend loop. Turn. (9 puff clusters)
Row 2: Work 1 puff, work 9 puff clusters across. Ch 1, extend loop. Turn. (9 puff clusters).
Rows 3 – 10: Rpt row 2.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Edging (worked in the round): Join yarn with a sl st in any corner and evenly work a round of Sc, working 3 sc in each corner. Join with a sl st in the first Sc.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
