It’s that time of year again: Beanie Season! And I have a wonderful crochet hat to add to your collection: The Step Ladder Beanie crochet pattern.
I’m sure you have already started thinking about making crochet hats, especially if you live in a colder climate for part of the year as I do in Canada.
I love making crochet hats. They are often easy and fairly quick to make. They don’t require a lot of yarn and are a great way to learn new crochet stitches.

Why crochet a hat in bulky weight yarn?
The Step Ladder Beanie crochet pattern features a pattern of front and back double crochet stitches. So you can bet that this crochet hat has a lot of texture, is super thick and cozy!
The other thing that is going to add to the coziness of this beanie is the fact that it is worked in a bulky weight yarn.
Not too long ago Knit Picks/WeCrochet reached out to me wanting to send a sample box of some of their yarn to me. How could I refuse? I was sent a wonderful box with a variety of yarn types and weights. This Brava Bulky weight yarn was included in the box and I just knew I needed to try it.

How long does it take to crochet a hat?
One of the most wonderful things about working a hat in a bulky and super bulky weight yarn is how quick the hat can be made up. The Step Ladder Beanie can be worked in about two to three hours. If you are looking for something to whip up for a last minute gift or multiple of for a craft sale and market, you will want to give the Step Ladder Beanie crochet pattern a try.
One final thing to know about the Step Ladder Beanie crochet pattern is that you will only need one ball of yarn! Each of the balls of Brava Bulky weight contains about 136 yards of yarn. That’s all you will need to make this hat.
