Welcome to week two of the 2025 Make it Your Way Crochet Along! Our first blanket square this week is the Raised Diagonal Afghan Square Crochet Pattern.

I love working post stitches. They create such a beautiful, cozy and thick texture. In this Raised Diagonal Afghan Square the post stitches create waves of diagonal cables that run along the length of the square.

Crochet cables and post stitches can be a bit of a challenge when you first begin to tackle them. That being said, after the first six rows or so, once you see the design coming through, it makes the pattern much easier to see and the post stitches are easier to work.

The Make it Your Way Crochet Along:

As mentioned, this is the second week in the 2025 Make it Your Way Crochet Along. This is a fun event where each week I will present you with two stitch options. Using those stitches you will make an afghan square. At the end of the event you will join your squares together, add an edging and you will have your own unique stitch sampler blanket!

You can learn about the event here: The 2025 Make it Your Way Crochet Along

You can see the first square here: The Herringbone Ribbing Afghan Square. And the second square was the Boxed Bead Afghan Square.

From the crochet along squares I have finished two blankets. The first option two squares I have called the “Pumpkin Spice Blanket” and the option one squares form the “Tranquil Blue Blanket.”

Our crochet afghan square today is the second square that will be found in the finished Tranquil Blue Blanket.

The Materials:

For the crochet along I have encouraged you to choose a favourite medium/worsted weight yarn – it can be new to your or from your stash, but choose a favourite! For my blanket I used two different colours, working two squares in each colour. For your finished blanket you will need a total of four squares. This square will be found in the final pattern for the Tranquil Blue Blanket.

Each square will be designed in a worsted/medium weight yarn.  For my blanket I will be using the Pound of Love yarn by Lion Brand Yarn. You will also need a 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook.

PDF Copies are now available:

  • This pattern is written in American crochet terms.
  • The crochet square motifs are all worked in rows and finished off with a round of single crochet edging.
  • Ch 1 at the beginning of a row/round does not count as a stitch.
  • You will make 4 squares (Two in both colour A and B) of each pattern for the blanket.
  • Once 20 squares are complete they are crocheted together in a 4 x 5 grid.  A simple edging is worked around the outer edge.
