The Galaxy Blanket crochet pattern is super cozy and showcases a couple of my favourite textured crochet stitch patterns.

I’m not going to lie, I use these stitches in many projects. In fact only a few days ago I published a crochet bookmark pattern that featured one of these very stitches!

The Elizabeth Stitch is a favourite crochet stitch for many. It is sometimes called the “mini bean” stitch because of the look of the fabric that it creates. It is worked by working little cluster stitches in the chain one spaces between the stitches below. It is a lovely texture and one that is reversible making it perfect for crochet blankets.

The other technique that I have used in the Galaxy Blanket crochet pattern is working in the “3rd loop.” I will explain how to find the 3rd loop in the pattern notes below. But it creates a ridge of texture that runs along the top of the blanket. The 3rd loop does look a little different depending on what side of your fabric you are looking at. I do give a couple tips in finding it in the free video tutorial below. Be sure to check it out and subscribe to my YouTube channel.

One final thing to note about this blanket is that it is worked all as one piece! You will work the blanket from the bottom up and I will give the stitch multiples down below should you wish to change the size. I have added a fringe to both ends of my blanket.

What materials will you need to crochet this blanket?

For my blanket below I used a soft, super bulky weight yarn called Caron Chunky Cakes by Yarnspirations. They are a 100% acrylic yarn and there are approximately 407 yards per cake. This is the same yarn that I used in my Rice Pudding Blanket and in the Ripple in Time Blanket. It’s very soft, very cosy and comes in a variety of self-stripping colours. You will need about 2400 yards to complete the blanket.

Along with the yarn you will need a 8mm (L/11) crochet hook. In the video tutorial below you will see me working with a Birchwood Hook by Rowan.
