The Cone Stitch is a beautiful and versatile crochet stitch that is very easy to work!

When I first came across this crochet stitch, I immediately fell in love with it’s texture.  I also love the fact that the stitch texture is the same on the front and the back as I am always looking for new stitches for blankets and shawls.

The cone stitch pattern creates a solid texture.  As the cone stitch itself is a spike stitch of sorts, the fabric is fairly thick as a result.  As you can work the stitch using any multiple of stitches, it would work well in a variety of projects.

The crochet cone stitch worked in a tan coloured yarn

Materials for this Tutorial:

For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Pima Cotton Yarn by Lion Brand Yarn in a single colour. It is a worsted weight yarn. The hook shown in the video below is a 5 mm birchwood crochet hook by Rowan Yarns.  However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose, even experiment with colour!

Thank you so much for stopping by! If you enjoy the tutorial below, be sure to also check out some of the many other crochet stitch tutorials on my site and pin this for later! You may wish to start with the Nesting Shell Stitch | How to Crochet.

The Crochet Cone Stitch:

Abbreviations:

Ch – Chain

Cone St – Cone Stitch (yarn over and insert your hook into the next st, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and insert your hook in the space under the same st, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through all five loops).

Rpt – Repeat

Sc – Single Crochet

Sk – Skip

Sl St – Slip Stitch

Yo – Yarn Over

Notes:

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial. You may work the stitch in one colour or many.  I will be working the design in a solid colour.

To begin, make a slip knot and then chain your desired number of chains.  For this stitch pattern you may use any multiple of stitches for your foundation chain.

For example, ch 20.

Row One:

Sc in 2nd and each across, ch 1, turn.

Row Two:

Sc in each across, ch 1, turn.

Row Three:

Work 1 cone st in the first st and in each st across (yarn over and insert your hook into the next st, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and insert your hook in the space under the same st, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through all five loops), ch 1, turn.

Rows Four – Six:

Sc in each across, ch 1, turn.

And That’s it!

For the pattern you will repeat rows 3-6.  For my swatch I ended on a repeat of row 4.  Then fasten off and weave in your ends.
