The Single Compress stitch is a beautifully textured fabric that is surprisingly easy to work! You will love the one row repeat!
Because it is a one row repeat, this pattern does not take long to catch on too. And I believe that it would work very well in a variety of projects ranging from washcloths to blankets and handbags.

This stitch pattern is worked entirely in single crochet two together stitches and chain stitches. For this reason it is a very easy pattern to work!
For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Cotton Aran by Paintbox Yarns. It is an aran weight yarn. The hook shown here and in the video below is a wooden streamline hook by Furls Crochet. However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose.

Single Compress Stitch:
This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial. At the end of each row you will need to chain one and turn your work. The chain one does not count as a stitch.
To begin, make a slip knot and then chain your desired number of chains. For this stitch pattern you can chain any even number of stitches for your foundation chain. Remember that the chain one will not count as a stitch.
Today I will chain a total of 20 chain stitches.
Work one single crochet two together over the next two stitches.
To work the single crochet two together, insert your hook in the next stitch and draw up a loop, insert your hook into the next stitch and draw up a loop. Now, with three loops on your hook, yarn over and draw through all the loops on your hook. Your single crochet two together is now made.
*Chain one and single crochet two together in the next two chains.
Repeat from * across to your final stitch. Single crochet in your final stitch, chain one and turn your work.
* Single crochet two together inserting your hook into the next stitch and chain one space, chain one.
Repeat from * across, working one single crochet in your final stitch. Chain one and turn your work.
And that’s it!
For the rest of the pattern simply repeat row two for as long as you would like. Fasten off and weave in your ends.
