The Mayberry Crochet Stitch features subtle pops of texture on one side.  The pops of texture are interspersed between rows of half double crochet.

The rows of half double crochet stitches help the texture stand out all the more.  The little pops of texture are created by working mini bobble stitches.

The stitch pattern is a four row repeat.  But, that being said, it is still a stitch pattern that you will be able to catch on quickly.  Once you do, I would love to hear what you make with the stitch and you can let me know in the comments below!

crochet Mayberry Stitch worked in pink yarn

Materials:

For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Cotton Aran by Paintbox Yarns. It is an aran weight yarn. The hook shown here and in the video below is a wooden streamline hook by Furls Crochet. However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose.

The Mayberry Stitch:

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial.  At the end of each row you will need to chain seven or chain three and turn your work. The chain three does count as a double crochet stitch.

To begin, make a slip knot and then chain your desired number of chains.  For this stitch pattern you can chain any even number of stitches for your foundation chain.

Today I will chain a total of 20 chain stitches.

Row One:

Single crochet into the second chain from your hook and into each stitch across.  Chain one and turn your work.

Row Two:

Half double crochet into the first stitch, * Skip the next stitch and work two half double crochet into the next stitch.

Repeat from * across, chain one and turn your work.

Row Three:

Single crochet in each of the first two stitches, work a bobble in the next stitch.

To work a bobble stitch, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop.  Yarn over and insert your hook into the same stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop.  Yarn over and draw through all four loops on your hook.  Bobble Stitch made.

*Single crochet in the next stitch, bobble in the next stitch.

Repeat from * across to the final two stitches, single crochet in the final two stitches.  Chain one and turn your work.

Row Four:

Half double crochet into the first stitch, * Skip the next stitch and work two half double crochet into the next stitch.

Repeat from * across, chain one and turn your work.

Row Five:

Single crochet in the first stitch, * bobble in the next stitch, single crochet in the next stitch.

Repeat from * across ending with a single crochet in the final stitch.  Chain one and turn your work.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern, repeat rows two to five.  Fasten off and weave in your ends.
