The Paired Single Crochet stitch is a dense crochet pattern. Great for crochet projects such as washcloths and blankets.

The paired single crochet stitch pattern is a one row repeat, once you have the stitch set up. It is fairly dense which means it will not work up quickly.

That being said, it still has a great texture and is interesting to look at.

Materials:

For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Cotton Aran by Paintbox Yarns. It is an aran weight yarn. The hook shown here and in the video below is a wooden streamline hook by Furls Crochet. However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose.

The Paired Single Crochet Stitch:

This pattern is worked in rows in this tutorial.

To begin, make a slip knot and then chain your desired number of chains.  For this stitch pattern you can crochet and number of chains for your foundation chain.

For my swatch I will be making a foundation chain of 21 chain stitches.

Row One:

Single Crochet into the second chain from your hook.

Next work one single crochet two together (sc2tog) in the same stitch as just worked and into the next chain.

To work a single crochet two together, insert your hook in the first stitch indicated, yarn over and draw up a loop. Insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop. Yarn over and draw through all the loops on your hook.

*Single crochet two together, this time inserting your hook first in the same chain as the last stitch just worked, and the next unworked chain.

Repeat from * across. Chain one and turn your work.

Row Two:

Single crochet in the first stitch.

*Single crochet two together, inserting your hook first in the same stitch as the last stitch just worked, and the next unworked stitch.

Repeat from * across. Chain one and turn your work.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern, simply repeat row two. Fasten off and weave in your ends.

  1. Hello!! I love this stitch and I think it would look beautiful to knot baskets as it looks quite strong.
My question therefore is: how do I knit it round and how do I do the increases.
Hope you can help me!! Thanks
