As we move deeper into the winter months, if you are in a colder climate it’s a great time to dive into a super bulky weight blanket like this Teal Textures Throw crochet pattern.
Blankets are one of my favourite things to crochet during the winter months. I have longer stretches of time indoors and it is wonderful to take that time to work on a larger project. Because the temperatures here tend to range on the cooler side I look forward to working under a larger, cozy, soft and warm project!
That being said, although this is considered a larger project, it’s not going to take you too long to complete as it is made with a super bulky weight yarn.

Materials needed to make a super bulky weight blanket:
The Teal Textures Throw crochet pattern is shown here worked in a soft Caron Chunky Cake by yarnspirations. I really love to use larger cake yarns when making crochet blankets. It makes adding colour so much easier. This particular blanket uses eight of those yarn cakes along with an 8 mm crochet hook. You will see me working with a Furls Streamline crochet hook below.

Crochet Blanket Construction:
The Teal Textures Throw is worked all as one piece. It is worked in rows from the bottom to the top and crocheted along the short end. It features two really great textures that complement each other. Many times, when I work a crochet blanket with a super bulky weight yarn I will opt for adding a fringe to each end like I did in the Galaxy Blanket and the Rainforest Blanket. But here, at the request of one of my children to whom I was designing it, I opted not to. You may certainly add a fringe, however, if you’d like!

I like the look of this pattern. I live in the south and making it with super bulky yarn would be way too hot. Do you think it would turn out okay if I used a #4 weight yarn?
It would work well in a #4 weight yarn, you will simply need to change the stitch counts for your first foundation chain.
