With summer on its way and the summer reading list growing longer, now may be the time to update your crochet bookmarks with this Summer Bookmark crochet pattern!

I love crocheting bookmarks! They are a great way to use up little pieces of scrap yarn. They are also great little projects that you can complete in an hour or less, are practical and easy!

I usually try to release a few crochet bookmark patterns a year. A few of my favourites include the Dainty Daisy Bookmark that is created by working small flower motifs, the Crescent Bookmark that is simple to work and very pretty, and the Suzette Bookmark that features a classic texture and look. There are so many good ones!

The Summer Bookmark:

Our Summer Bookmark crochet pattern today is very easy to work and is worked in one of my favourite stitches: the Herringbone Stitch. I’ve kept the design simple wishing to show off the beautiful texture that the stitch pattern creates. I have worked by bookmarks in a solid colour but you could certainly mix the colours up a bit!

I have added a fringe to each end of my bookmark. Then instead of leaving the strands of yarn as the were I ran a fine toothed comb through them to give them a softer appearance. You can cut them short, or leave them long – I’ve shown examples of both in my photos above.

PDF Copies are also available:

Edging (worked along each short end):

Join yarn with a sl st in the corner along the short edge of your bookmark.

Fasten off.  Repeat for second side.  Weave in ends.

Add a fringe if desired.  Note: I used a small comb to comb the fringe which resulted in its softer look.
