The Big Bobble Crochet Stitch is for those who love extreme texture in their crochet projects!

These crochet bobbles are BIG! And they would add a lot of fun to many different projects! While I will be working the stitch in one colour down below, I would love to try it in multiple colours or work it so that the bobbles are a different colour from the background fabric.  I think it would really make it pop!

A big bobble crochet stitch worked in a golden coloured yarn

The bobbles in this stitch are larger than your typical bobble stitch as they are made with double treble stitches instead of a double crochet.  As they are made with the taller stitches, they pop out more creating a bit of a bubble like appearance.  They are so much fun!

Materials for this Tutorial:

For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Pima Cotton Yarn by Lion Brand Yarn in a single colour. It is a worsted weight yarn. The hook shown in the video below is a 5 mm birchwood crochet hook by Rowan Yarns.  However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose, even experiment with colour!

Thank you so much for stopping by! If you enjoy the tutorial below, be sure to also check out some of the many other crochet stitch tutorials on my site and pin this for later! You may wish to start with the Pompom Stitch | How to Crochet.

The Big Bobble Crochet Stitch:

Big Bobble – Big Bobble Stitch ([yarn over 3 times, yarn over and draw through 2 loops 3 times] 7 times, yarn over and draw through all the loops on your hook.

Ch – Chain

Rpt – Repeat

Sc – Single Crochet

Sk – Skip

Sl St – Slip Stitch

Yo – Yarn Over

Notes:

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial. You may work the stitch in one colour or many.  I will be working the design in a solid colour.

To begin, make a slip knot and then chain your desired number of chains.  For this stitch pattern you will need a multiple of six stitches for your foundation chain.

For example, ch 30.

Row One:

Hdc in the 2nd ch from your hook and in each st across.  Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn.

Row Two:

Dc in 1st st and in then next, work one big bobble in the next stitch, *dc in each of the next 5 sts, big bobble in the next st; Rpt from * across to the final 2 sts, dc in each of the last 2 sts.  Ch 1, turn.

Row Three:

Hdc in the 1st st and in each st across.  Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn.

Row Four:

Dc in each of the 1st 5 sts, *big bobble in the next st, dc in each of the next 5 sts; Rpt from * across.  Ch 1, turn.

Row Five:

Hdc in the 1st st and in each st across.  Ch 2 (does not count as a stitch), turn.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern you will repeat rows 2-5. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
