The Linked Rail Stitch Crochet Pattern is a stitch with a great reversible texture that almost looks as though it is knit!
Over the years I have introduced a few stitches that I have called “rail stitches.” The crochet stitches are ones that have a knit like texture running along in horizontal across the top of the fabric, however they don’t always work well as a ribbing.
This Linked Rail stitch is one that I would fit into this category. Although this one is closer to a ribbing, it doesn’t quite hold its shape or spring back when stretched out.

The linked rail stitch is beautiful! It’s cozy and would look wonderful when worked in a super bulky weight yarn. It’s worked very simply as a one-row repeat using a stitch that I’ve sometimes seen called a herringbone stitch, although this one we are going to extend a little bit with an extra step I describe below.
The Materials:
For this tutorial today, I will be using a small amount of Heatherly by KnitPicks and WeCrochet in a single colour. You are also able to work this stitch in a single colour or more. The Heatherly yarn is a medium/worsted weight yarn that is a wool blend. Along with my worsted weight yarn, I will also be working with a 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook.

Pattern Notes:
This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a single colour.
This pattern is written in American crochet terms.
To begin, make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch pattern you may use any number of stitches for your foundation chain.
Chain 1 at the start of a row does not count as a stitch.
For example, ch 30.
Row One:
Sc in the 2nd ch from your hook, *to work the next st insert the hook under the loop at the front of the post of the stitch just worked and then into the next st on the foundation chain, yo and draw up a loop and pull the loop through the 1st loop on your hook, yo and pull through next 2 loops; Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn.
Row Two:
Working blo all the way across, sc in the 1st st, *to work the next st insert the hook under the loop at the front of the post of the stitch just worked and then into the next st on the foundation chain, yo and draw up a loop and pull the loop through the 1st loop on your hook, yo and pull through next 2 loops; Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn.
And that’s it!
For the rest of the pattern simply repeat row two. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
