This Garden Vines Scarf crochet pattern is so, so cozy and is a scarf that you will want to wear again and again!
Sometimes you just need a large scarf! Whether it is to simply make a statement, or for warmth after a long day, this crochet super scarf has “cozy” written all over it.
When the Caron Macchiato cakes came out at my local Michaels store last year, I snatched up a few without really having a project in mind for them. Since then I have worked up some beautiful hats and scarves for friends, one of which is this Garden Vines Scarf.
This super scarf crochet pattern works up like a cozy wrap. It measures approximately 12.5 inches by 76 inches long (although I will provide the stitch multiples below if you wish to adjust the size). The pattern used is double sided and includes plush puff stitches that trail down the length. To tie it all together I have added a knotted fringe.
What materials do you need to crochet this scarf?
The Caron Macchiato Cakes by Yarnspirations (80% acrylic, 20% Wool; 8 oz/227g; 481 yds/440 m; Bulky (5) Weight) are a bulky weight yarn that is an acrylic/wool blend. Because of the bulky weight you will find that the scarf gains length fairly quickly and it also makes the scarf quite thick. You will need approximately 2.5 cakes for your scarf.
If you are not too keen on working with wool, you may substitute the yarn for a favourite bulky weight (#5) yarn of your choosing.
Along with the bulky weight yarn, you will also want to have a 6 mm (J/10) crochet hook.

Garden Vines Scarf Crochet Pattern:
Skill Level: Easy
Gauge: 12 stitches x 6 rows of dc = 4 inches
Finished Size: 12.5 x 76 inches excluding fringe
Yarn: Caron Macchiato Cakes by Yarnspirations (80% acrylic, 20% Wool; 8 oz/227g; 481 yds/440 m; Bulky (5) Weight) You will need approximately 2.5 balls for your scarf.
Hook: Size J/10 (6 mm) hook.
Notions: Yarn Needle.
Stitches and Abbreviations:
Ch – Chain
Dc – Double Crochet
Hdc – Half Double Crochet
Puff St – Puff Stitch ([Yo, insert your hook into the sp/st indicated, yo and draw up a loop] 4 times, yo and draw through all but 1 lp, yo and draw through the remaining 2 loops. Puff stitch made.)
Lp – Loop
Rpt – Repeat
Sc – Single Crochet
Sk – Skip
Sl St – Slip Stitch
Yo – Yarn Over
Pattern Notes:
- Pattern is written in American English terms.
- Pattern is worked in rows.
- Ch 1 at beginning of row does not count as stitch.
- Weave in ends as needed.
- To change the width of your scarf you will need a multiple of 6 + 5 stitches for your foundation chain.
Free Crochet Pattern:
Ch 47
Row 1: Dc in the 4th ch from your hook (starting ch-3 always counts as a dc st) and in each of the next 3 sts, ch 1, sk the next st, *dc in each of the next 5 sts, ch 1, sk the next st; Rpt from * across until 3 sts remain, dc in each of the final 3 sts. Ch 3, turn.
Row 2: Dc in each of the next 2 sts, dc in the ch-1 sp, dc in the next st, puff in the previous ch-1 sp, *sk the next 2 dc sts, dc in each of the next 3 sts, dc in the next ch 1 sp, dc in the next st, puff in the previous ch-1 sp; Rpt from * across until 4 sts remain, sk the next 2 dc, dc in each of the final 3 sts. Ch 3, turn.
Row 3: Dc in each of the next 4 sts (including the next 2 dc, puff st and dc), *work a puff stitch reaching down and back into the space before the previous puff st in the row below, sk the next 2 dc, dc in each of the next 3 dc, dc in the next puff st, dc in the next dc; Rpt from * across ending with a dc in each of the final 3 sts. Ch 3, turn.
Rows 4-113 (Or until scarf reaches the desired length): Repeat Row 3.
Fasten off, and weave in ends.
Add a fringe to each end if desired. For my fringe I cut lengths of yarn about 8 inches long. Beginning in the 1st st along the short edge, pull through 5 strands of yarn and fold them in half so the ends meet then tie in a knot. I spaced my knotted tassels in every 3rd stitch along the short ends.
