Add some mesmerizing colour to your next crochet project using spike stitches in this Eyelash Spike Stitch Crochet Pattern.
There are so many ways in crochet to add colour to a project and one of those ways is through crochet spike stitches.
Crochet spike stitches are, simply put, stitches that are not worked into the top of the stitch immediately below, but can be worked in the stitches two or more rows below.
In our Eyelash Spike Stitch crochet pattern today we will work single crochet stitches in the rows two, three and four rows below. The result is a mesmerizing pattern of colour when worked in two or more as I will.

The Materials:
For this tutorial today, I will be using a small amount of Heatherly by KnitPicks and WeCrochet in two colours labelled A and B. You are also able to work this stitch in a single colour or more. The Heatherly yarn is a medium/worsted weight yarn that is a wool blend. Along with my worsted weight yarn, I will also be working with a 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook.

Pattern Notes:
This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in two colours labelled A and B.
This pattern is written in American crochet terms.
The turning ch does not count as a stitch.
To begin, make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch pattern, you will need a multiple of six stitches, plus four (6+4) for your foundation chain.
For example, ch 34.
Row One:
With colour A, sc in the 2nd ch from your hook and into each st across. Ch 1, turn.
Rows Two – Four:
Sc in the 1st st and in each st across. Ch 1, turn.
A the end of row four, switch to colour B in the final st. With colour B, ch 1, turn. (Note: you may leave colour A attached or fasten off. In the video tutorial below I will leave it attached and gently carry it up the side to be picked up with the next colour change.
Row Five:
Sc in the 1st st, *sc in the next st, spike sc in the next st 2 rows below, spike sc in the next st 3 rows below, spike sc in the next st 4 rows below, spike sc in the next st 3 rows below, spike sc in the next st 2 rows below; Rpt from * across until 1 st remains, sc in the final st. Ch 1, turn.
Rows Six – Eight:
Sc in the 1st st and in each st across. Ch 1, turn.
A the end of row eight, switch to colour A in the final st. With colour A, ch 1, turn.
Row Nine:
Sc in the 1st st, spike sc in the next st 4 rows below, spike sc in the next st 3 rows below, spike sc in the next st 2 rows below, *sc in the next st, spike sc in the next st 2 rows below, spike sc in the next st 3 rows below, spike sc in the next st 4 rows below, spike sc in the next st 3 rows below, spike sc in the next st 2 rows below; Rpt from * across until 5 sts remain, sc in the next st, spike sc in the next st 2 rows below, spike sc in the next st 3 rows below, spike sc in the next st 4 rows below, sc in the next st. Ch 1, turn.
And that’s it!
For the rest of the pattern, repeat rows 2-9. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
