Happy Canada Day! Today on the blog I have a special Canadian themed crochet pattern for you! Sport this maple leaf cup cozy on your favourite drink this coming holiday!

This past Christmas, knowing that coffee is one of my favourite beverages, my husband and kids gifted me with a ceramic coffee mug.  This mug has certainly made the rounds as it travels most places with me.

Knowing that I would be sporting it to the local Canada Day celebrations this weekend, I decided that I needed to dress it up a little more Canadian like!

Cup Cozy

Ceramic coffee and tea mugs can get quite warm, so you can’t go wrong having a practical cup cozy for them.

The Cup Cozy:

Now, to the cup cozy!

This cup cozy will not require much yarn, I would have about 200 yards on hand of your favourite worsted weight cotton.  I stuck with the traditional Canadian red and white, but of course, you may add your own creative flare using your favourite colours.

Along with your worsted weight cotton you will need a 5 mm crochet hook and a yarn needle for weaving in your ends.

The Stitches:

For the pattern, I opted for using a front post single crochet stitch.  While making the cozy a bit thicker, it also added some great texture.

This cozy was designed to fit my ceramic mug, however if you would like to make it fit a larger or smaller mug, I would recommend decreasing/increasing your initial starting by two.  I like my starting chains to have an odd number of stitches so that there is a definite middle for the maple leaf design.
