The Dandelion Beanie Crochet Pattern is a beautiful textured crochet hat pattern that was designed with a hand-dyed skein of yarn in mind!
Earlier this Fall I had the pleasure of teaching a few workshops at the Fibre Festival in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada.
For one of those workshops I focused on teaching a project that could be made with one skein (approximately 100 grams) of a gorgeous hand dyed yarn. I think that, as crocheters, we see (and maybe even purchase) the gorgeous hand crafted yarn that we find at local festivals, but are sometimes at a loss for what to make with it.
Introducing the Dandelion Beanie!

It was actually just over a year ago that I picked up some beautiful, naturally dyed wool yarn from Cabin Boy Knits. The yarn was gorgeous gold, green and variegated tones and so, so soft on the skin! I immediately fell in love with it and designed a couple of crochet hats with it. The first was the Charlie Beanie Crochet Pattern and our Dandelion Beanie is the second.

The hat is worked from the brim up to the top and is worked almost exclusively in half double crochet stitches. The texture in the hat is created when some of those half double crochet stitches are worked into the 3rd loop which I will demonstrate in the video below.
In the photos I did use two different colours in the hat, but you could certainly make it in one or even more than two!

Check out my new books! I have four crochet books now available on Amazon in ebook and paperback format. These books include two books of blanket crochet patterns and one of my favourite crochet stitches. You can see them all by clicking HERE. Enjoy!
PDF Copies are available.:
This crochet pattern will be written out in full below followed by a free video tutorial. The pattern is free to follow on my site and will always be free! If, however, you would like a printable copy, you may purchase one from my Etsy and Ravelry Shops linked below:

Pattern Notes:
- Pattern is written in American English terms.
- Pattern is worked in rounds.
- Ch 1 at beginning of round does not count as stitch.
- Weave in ends as needed.
- Hat may be worn with a pompom or without.
- When changing colours, in the stitch prior to the colour change, drop the colour in use before completing the stitch, place the new colour on your hook and draw through the final two loops on your hook. Then continue working with the new colour.
- For this pattern I like to gently carry the non working yarn up the inside of the hat. Alternatively you may fasten off at the end of each colour change and weave in your ends as you go.
- To change the size of your hat you will need a multiple of 2 stitches. When it comes to the top of the hat, if you wish the decrease rounds to work out evenly you may wish to increase/decrease in multiples of 8 stitches.
