Blankets and Throws, Free Patterns

Crossed Paths Throw – Free Crochet Pattern

Sometimes it’s nice to have a light weight throw that you can wear during those warmer summer nights! This light weight yarn paired with the sturdy block lace stitch results in the perfect summer nights throw.

Don’t you just love the colours of the Shawl in a Cake yarn by Lion Brand Yarn? They just scream summer to me, especially this Healing Teal.  When worked in this block lace stitch it reminds me of ocean waves.

Even during the summer months, I like to have a throw blanket laying around the house or cottage.  (Would you like to check out another light weight summer throw? Check out the Clover Meadows Throw found here: Clover Meadows Throw – A Free Crochet Pattern).  But I don’t always want to have something too heavy.  This is a light weight throw, perfect for those summer nights.

Block Lace Stitch

Shawl in a Cake by Lion Brand Yarn:

The Crossed Paths Throw is crocheted using Lion Brand’s Shawl in a Cake.  It’s a cotton and acrylic blend that features some great texture and comes in a variety of colours.  For the project you will need approximately six cakes.

Curious about the yarn? You can find Lion Brand’s selection of Shawl in a Cake on their website here: Shawl in a Cake @ Lion Brand.com

A huge thank you to Lion Brand for supplying the yarn and supporting this project!

Along with your yarn, you will need a 6 mm crochet hook.

Blanket Construction:

The blanket is worked in rows, including the edging which is worked only along the two shorter ends of your blanket.

The body of the blanket is worked in a block lace stitch which is fairly sturdy as far as lace stitches are concerned.  It is comprised of single crochet and double crochet stitches so if you consider yourself a beginner when it comes to the art of crochet, this might just be the blanket for you!

Following the written pattern (which you will find in full below), you will also find a free video tutorial that will walk you through the block lace pattern and the edging for this blanket.  While watching, please don’t forget to subscribe.

  1. You say (about the Shawl in a Cake yarn) that it’s “It’s a cotton and archly blend.” Pretty sure you mean “acrylic” not “archly.” Also pretty sure that was autocorrect! Lol!
