Whether you are looking for a new crochet hat for yourself, a friend, family member or to donate to a charity, the Cameron Beanie crochet pattern is perfect!
This crochet hat looks like it is knit! And unlike my Classic Knit Look Beanie and Men’s Classic Beanie, there are relatively few slip stitches!
The unisex Cameron Beanie crochet pattern is so easy to work. It is worked side to side in rows with a chain loop at the top. At the end of every second row you will slip stitch into the chain loop. This action helps to bring the top of the hat together more easily. It’s the same method that I used to create the Easy Winter Beanie.

The knit look in this crochet hat is created by working a herringbone stitch, and in particular, working it in the back loop only. The stitch is easy to work, its uniqueness coming from the fact that when working the stitch, you will insert your hook through the post of the previous stitch before inserting it into the next stitch in the row. You will see this in the full video tutorial below.
The hat is easy to customize. Although the instructions are only provided for the adult size below, to adjust the size of the hat you simply need to work the foundation chain to the desired length, then work the row repeats for the desired circumference. For reference you may use this hat size chart below:

What yarn and hook should I use for my crochet hat?
To work the Cameron Beanie crochet pattern I selected the Brava Tweed Yarn by WeCrochet. It is a beautiful 97% premium acrylic worsted weight yarn that comes in a variety of beautiful colours. It makes for a gorgeous, soft crochet hat!
I have paired the yarn with an H/8 (5 mm) crochet hook. In the video tutorial below you will see me using a Metal Streamline crochet hook by Furls.

From the ring, ch 50.
Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from your hook, hsc (see “Stitches and Abbreviations”) in the next st and in each of the remaining stitches. Slip stitch into the ch-15 loop, ch 1, turn. (49 sts)
Row 2: Working in the blo all the way across, sc in the first hsc st, hsc in each st across until the final st. In the final st, work under both loops and hsc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 3: Working under both loops sc in the 1st hsc st, working in the blo all the way across hsc in the next st and in each of the remaining stitches. Slip stitch into the ch-15 loop, ch 1, turn.

Fold your hat so that the ch-15 loop is at the top and both sides of the hat meet. Join your two long sides together by working through both thickness and in the blo of each side all the way across, sl st in each st across. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
Take a piece of yarn and sew the top of the hat closed. Once again fasten off and weave in any ends.
