The Sieve Stitch creates a fabric that features small eyelets. It is easy to work using only single crochet and chain stitches.
The Sieve stitch is a fairly versatile stitch to work and would fit well in a variety of projects including articles of clothing, blankets and shawls.

This stitch is a two row repeat, alternating rows of single crochet and chain stitches, and solid rows of single crochet stitches.
The end result is a piece of fabric that is like a strong mesh stitch. This is a great stitch for beginners and more advanced crocheters alike!
To give the stitch design a bit more interest, you might try alternating rows of colour, or work it in a solid colour as I have done in the tutorial below.

Materials:
For this tutorial I will be using the Caron x Pantone yarn by Yarnspirations along with a 6 mm crochet hook. The hook shown here and in the video below is a wooden streamline hook by Furls Crochet. However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose.

Sieve Stitch:
This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial. At the end of each row you will need to chain one and turn your work. The chain one at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch.
Don’t forget to check out the free video tutorial linked below!
For this stitch pattern you can use a multiple of two stitches.
For my swatch I will be making a foundation chain of 22 chain stitches.
Row One:
Single Crochet in the second chain from your hook and in each stitch across.
Chain one and turn your work.
Row Two
Single Crochet in the first stitch, *chain one, skip the next stitch, single crochet in the next stitch.
Repeat from * all the way across.
Chain one and turn your work.
Row Three:
Skip the first stitch, * work two single crochet in the next chain one space.
Repeat from * across. Work one single crochet stitch in the last stitch.
Chain one and turn your work.
And that’s it!
For the rest of the pattern, repeat rows two and three. Fasten off and weave in your ends.
