The Waffle V Stitch is so easy and a wonderful one row repeat.  It is full of texture and results in a nice and relatively stretchy fabric.

The design is the same on both sides which would make it a great stitch choice for those reversible.  One thing to note is that, although other waffle stitches tend to create solid and dense fabrics, the Waffle V Stitch is not one of those stitches.  The fabric does have lots of structure and stability, however is quite open and airy.

The Waffle V Crochet Stitch worked in a light blue yarn

Materials for this Tutorial:

For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Pima Cotton Yarn by Lion Brand Yarn. It is a worsted weight yarn. The hook shown in the video below is a 5 mm birchwood crochet hook by Rowan Yarns.  However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose.

Thank you so much for stopping by! If you enjoy the tutorial below, be sure to also check out some of the many other crochet stitch tutorials on my site and pin this for later! You may wish to start with the 3D Shell Stitch | How to Crochet.

Fpdc – Front Post Double Crochet

Hdc – Half Double Crochet

Rpt – Repeat

Sc – Single Crochet

Sk – Skip

Sl St – Slip Stitch

V-St – V Stitch (Double Crochet, Chain 1, Double Crochet) all in the same space

Notes:

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial.  You may work the stitch in one colour or many.  I will be working the design in a solid colour.

To begin, make a slip knot and then chain your desired number of chains.  For this stitch pattern you will need a multiple of five stitches for your foundation chain (multiples of 5).

For example, ch 25.

Row One:

Work 2 dc in the 6th ch from hook, ch 1, 2 dc in next ch, * skip the next 3 ch, 2 dc in next ch, ch 1, 2 dc in next ch; rep from * across until 3 ch remain, 1 dc in last ch, ch 3 (counts as a dc), turn.

Row Two:

Skip the next dc, * fpdc around next dc, v-st in the next ch-1 sp, fpdc around next dc, skip the next 2 dc; rep from * across, ending with skip the next dc, dc in the top of the turning ch.  Ch 3 (Counts as a dc), turn.

Row Three:

Skip next dc, * fpdc around next dc, v-st in next ch-1 sp, fpdc around next dc, skip the next 2 dc; rep from * across, ending with skip next dc, dc in the top of your turning ch.  Ch 3 (Counts as a dc), turn.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern simply repeat row three until you have reached the desired size.  Fasten off and weave in your ends.
