The Seashell Stitch crochet pattern is a beautiful design featuring a stitch that is worked over multiple stitches.

These stitches are worked similar to a puff stitch, but spread out giving them a fan like appearance. The stitch pattern is almost the same on both sides with the front side looking as though the stitches are being pushed forward slightly. You will love this unique and beautiful texture!

Materials for this Tutorial:

For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of cotton yarn. This yarn is a worsted weight yarn called Pima Cotton by Lion Brand Yarn. I will also be using a 5 mm crochet hook. The hook you will see me using in the video tutorial below is a Clover Soft Touch Hook also available on Lion Brand through the link above.

Thank you so much for stopping by! If you enjoy learning new crochet stitches, you will find many more in the “Crochet Stitches” category here on Rich Textures Crochet, or you may wish to check out the Fan Stitch. I update this website with a new crochet stitch every week!

Notes:

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in two colours: Colour A and colour B.

To begin make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch you will need a multiple of six chains plus two (6+2) for your foundation chain.

For example, with colour A, ch 38.

Row One:

Sc in the 2nd ch from your hook and in each st all the way across. Ch 1, turn.

Row Two:

Sc in the 1st st, *ch 2, 5tog over the next 5 sts, ch 2, sc in the next st: Rpt from * across, sc in final st. Ch 1, turn.

Row Three:

Working in the blo all the way across, sc in the 1st st and each st (including the ch sts) across. Switch to colour B in the final st, ch 3 (counts as a dc), turn.

Row Four:

With colour B, 2tog over each of the next 2 sts, *ch 2, sc in next st, ch 2, 5tog over the next 5 sts; Rpt from * across ending with a sc, ch 2, 3tog over the final 3 sts, ch 1, turn.

Row Five:

Working in the blo all the way across, sc in the 1st st and each st (including the ch sts) across. Switch to colour A in the final st, ch 3 (counts as a dc), turn.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern you will repeat rows 2-5 for as long as you would like. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
