I love the look of this Reverse Half Double Crochet Spike Stitch! It is such a neat stitch to work and, best of all it is reversible!

Although it is considered reversible, it is not the same on both sides.  Each side has a unique look and both look amazing! On the one side, the direction of the stitches looks slanted, while on the reverse side they are straight up and down and look almost woven.  It would make such a wonderful blanket and I look forward to using it in one in the future!

Materials:

For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Pima Cotton Yarn by Lion Brand Yarn. It is a worsted weight yarn. The hook shown in the video below is a 5 mm Clover Armour Crochet Hook. However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose.

The Reverse Half Double Crochet Spike Stitch:

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial.

To begin, make a slip knot and then chain your desired number of chains.  For this stitch pattern you can use any multiple of stitches and then add one for your foundation chain.

Row One:

Half double crochet into the second chain from your hook and into each stitch across.

Chain one and turn your work.

Row Two:

Slip stitch into the first stitch and into each stitch across.

Chain one and turn your work.

Row Three:

Work a reverse half double crochet spike stitch into the space between the chain one and the first half double crochet stitch two rows below working over top of the slip stitch row.

To work the reverse half double crochet spike stitch, yarn over and insert your hook into the space indicated two rows below, yarn under and draw up a loop.  Yarn over and draw through the three loops on your hook.  Your reverse half double crochet spike stitch is made.

Next reverse half double crochet spike stitch in the space between the next two half double crochet stitches, working over top of the slip stitch, two rows below.

Repeat this last step all the way across.

Chain one and turn your work.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern simply repeat rows two and three.  Fasten off and weave in your ends.
