The Pine Cone Crochet Stitch pattern is a thick textured design featuring front post puff stitches and back post double Crochet Stitches.

The stitch pattern features a heavy texture that would work wonderfully for blankets and accessories, or perhaps as an accent pattern in a cozy cardigan.

The stitch is fairly easy to work. The repeat in the pattern is four rows long, but it is one that is very easy to remember. I am sure that you are going to love it!

Materials:

For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of cotton yarn. This yarn is a worsted weight yarn called Pima Cotton by Lion Brand Yarn. I will also be using a 5 mm crochet hook. The hook you will see me using in the video tutorial below is a Clover Soft Touch Hook also available on Lion Brand through the link above.

Thank you so much for stopping by! If you enjoy learning new crochet stitches, you will find many more in the “Crochet Stitches” category here on Rich Textures Crochet, or you may wish to check out the Bouillon Crochet Stitch. I update this website with a new crochet stitch every week!

Pine Cone Crochet Stitch:

Stitches and Abbreviations:

Bpdc – Back Post Double Crochet

Ch – Chain Stitch

Dc – Double Crochet

Fp Puff – Front Post Puff Stitch (Bring your hook in front of your work and insert your hook around the post of the next double crochet stitch as follows: [yo, insert your hook around the post of the next st, yo and draw up a loop] twice, yo and draw through all the loops on your hook. Front Post Puff Stitch Made)

Hdc – Half Double Crochet

Rpt – Repeat

Sc – Single Crochet

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial. You may work it in one colour or many. I will be working the stitch in a solid colour.

To begin, make a slip knot and then a foundation chain. For your foundation chain you will need an odd multiple of stitches for your foundation chain.

For example, ch 21.

Row One:

Dc in the 4th ch from your hook and in each st across. Ch 1, turn

Row Two:

Hdc in the 1st st, fp puff in the next st, *bpdc in the next st, fp puff in the next st; Rpt from * across to the turning ch, hdc in the top of the turning ch. Ch 3 (counts as a dc), turn.

Row Three:

Dc in the next st and in each st across. Ch 1, turn.

Row Four:

Hdc in the 1st st, bpdc in the next st, *fp puff in the next st, bpdc in the next st; Rpt from * across to the turning ch, hdc in the top of the turning ch. Ch 3, turn.

Row Five:

Dc in the next st and in each st across. Ch 1, turn.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern simply repeat rows 2-5. I finished my swatch on a repeat of row 2. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
