This Making Tracks Stitch features fun rows of texture interspersed between rows of Double Crochet Stitches.

When the stitch is worked in multiple colours as I will in the tutorial below, it resembles tired treads.  The texture in this stitch is all toward the one side.  You may wish to keep this in mind as you decide which project to use this in!

It would create some neat texture in a crochet cardigan or sweater.  You could also add it to a blanket for some variety!  The design is relatively easy to work and works up rather quickly with its rows of double crochet stitches.

Materials for this Tutorial:

For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Pima Cotton Yarn by Lion Brand Yarn in two different colours. It is a worsted weight yarn. The hook shown in the video below is a 5 mm birchwood crochet hook by Rowan Yarns.  However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose.

Thank you so much for stopping by! If you enjoy the tutorial below, be sure to also check out some of the many other crochet stitch tutorials on my site and pin this for later! You may wish to start with the Nesting V Stitch | How to Crochet.

Sl St – Slip Stitch

Notes:

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial.  You may work the stitch in one colour or many.  I will be working the design in two colours: A, B.

To begin, make a slip knot and then chain your desired number of chains.  For this stitch pattern you will need a multiple of four stitches for your foundation chain (multiples of 4).

For example, with colour B, ch 24.

Row One:

Dc in the 4th ch from your hook and in each ch across.  Change to colour A in the final st.  With Colour A, ch 3 (counts as a dc) and turn.

Row Two:

*Sk the next 3 sts and dc in the next st, now working in front of the 3 dc just made, dc in each of the previous 3 skipped sts; Rpt from * across to your final st, dc in the final st.  Ch 3 (counts as a dc), turn.

Row Three:

*Sk the next 3 sts and dc in the next st, now working in behind the 3 dc just made, dc in each of the previous 3 skipped sts; Rpt from * across to your final st, dc in the final st.  Change to colour B in the final st, ch 3 (counts as a dc), turn.

Row Four:

With colour B, dc in each st across.  Do not turn, but return to the start of the row and pick up colour A, ch 3 (counts as a dc).

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern repeat rows 2-4 for as long as you would like.  Fasten off and weave in your ends.
