Learn how to crochet this textured crochet stitch that looks like little knots! It’s the Knotted Single Crochet.
Not too long ago I published a stitch tutorial for a Knotted Half Double Crochet Stitch and I wanted to give the concept a try but with a single crochet. And I love the results!
Like the knotted half double crochet, the knotted single crochet stitch is created by working a pattern of single crochet rows and then single crochet decrease rows.
Now in order to ease some of the slant that was created with working this stitch, I did adjust the stitches at the start of the rows so that there would not be as much pull on the stitches. I did alleviate some of the diagonal effect, however, if working this stitch, depending on the pattern, you may need to block your finished piece.
Still, I love this stitch pattern and I love the little “knots” that really show up in the design!
The Materials:
For this tutorial today, I will be using a small amount of Heatherly by KnitPicks and WeCrochet in two different colours. I’ve labelled them as colours A and B. It is a medium/worsted weight yarn that is a wool blend. Along with my worsted weight yarn, I will also be working with a 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook.

Blo – Back Loop Only
Ch – Chain
Rpt – Repeat
Sc – Single Crochet
Sc2tog – Single Crochet Two Stitches Together
Sk – Skip
Sl st – Slip stitch
Sp – Space
Yo – Yarn over

Pattern Notes:
This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in two colours: A and B.
This pattern is written in American crochet terms.
To begin, make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch, you may use any number of stitches for your foundation chain.
For example, with colour A, ch 21.
Row One:
Sc in the 2nd ch from your hook and in each st across. Ch 1, turn.
Row Two:
Sc in the first st, sc2tog over the next 2 sts, *sc2tog starting in same as the last st; Rpt from * across until no sts remaining, sc in the final st (which is the same as the last). Switch to colour B in the final st. Ch 1, turn.
Row Three:
With colour B, sc in the 1st st and in each st across. Ch 1, turn.
Row Four:
Sc in the first st, sc2tog over the next 2 sts, *sc2tog starting in same as the last st; Rpt from * across until no sts remaining, sc in the final st (which is the same as the last). Switch to colour A in the final st. Ch 1, turn.
Row Five:
With colour A, sc in the 1st st and in each st across. Ch 1, turn.
And that’s it!
For the remainder of the pattern simply repeat rows two to five. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
