The Knotted Half Double Crochet Stitch crochet pattern is a two row repeat with a subtle texture that has been around for a little while.
In my research of this crochet stitch pattern however I discovered that there are two variations of the pattern so I would like to include them both here on Rich Textures Crochet!
The first variation of the Knotted Half Double Crochet will appear here today and then next week I will share the modified version. Both are absolutely lovely!

With this first Knotted Half Double Crochet Stitch pattern we will be working rows of single crochet stitches alternating with rows of half double crochet two together stitches.
The challenge with this stitch, which you will see in most the other tutorials that are out there, is that the fabric slants and the sides will come out on the diagonal. This is simply due to the fact that all of the hdc2tog stitches are worked in the same direction so they pull the fabric. In our tutorial today I have modified the traditional pattern a bit to get rid of the diagonal slant. Everyone loves a pattern with straight edges!

The Materials:
For this tutorial today, I will be using a small amount of Heatherly by KnitPicks and WeCrochet in a single colour. It is a medium/worsted weight yarn that is a wool blend. Along with my worsted weight yarn, I will also be working with a 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook.

Pattern Notes:
This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a single colour.
This pattern is written in American crochet terms.
To begin, make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch, you may use any number of stitches for your foundation chain.
For example, ch 21.
Row One:
Sc in the 2nd ch from your hook and in each st across. Ch 1, turn.
Row Two:
Sc in the first st, hdc2tog over the next 2 sts, *hdc2tog starting in same as the last st; Rpt from * across until no sts remaining, hdc in the final st (which is the same as the last), ch 1 turn.
Row Three:
Sc in the 1st st and in each st across. Ch 1, turn.
And that’s it!
For the remainder of the pattern simply repeat rows two and three. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
