The Hillside Throw features a rhythmic pattern of front and back post double crochet stitches that is as soothing to work as a lush country hillside!

This crochet blanket pattern is worked beginning from the middle and features waves of texture throughout the design.  Working the blanket from the middle allows you to work the blanket to the desired size.  The exact pattern is approximately 56 x 56 inches square.

The Yarn:

In this design I have used gradient and reverse gradient cakes by Panda Yarns.  The Gradient Cakes by Panda Yarns are 100% cotton.  They are plied yarn which means that there are multiple strands held together and not wound (there is no twist in the yarn).  Because of this, working with the yarn does take a bit to get used to so that it does not split when you insert your hook. The colour changes are subtle and beautiful!

When working with the Panda Cakes, I pull from the centre.  So in order to begin my blanket in the darkest colour of the cake, I began with a reverse gradient cake (1600 yards) of the colour Rain on the Hillside.  As you work the blanket, the colours flow into the gradient cake of the same colours.  The final edging is worked with an 800 yard cake of the darkest colour in my coloured cake called Taupe.  All the details will be given in more detail in the free pattern below.

Pattern Notes:

  • Pattern is written in American English terms.
  • Pattern is worked in rounds.
  • Do not turn at the end of the round but continue working in the same direction.
  • Ch 1 at beginning of round does not count as stitch.
  • Ch 3 at beginning of round counts as a double Crochet.
  • If you change the size of the throw, you may need to adjust your edging.  For the first round of the edging, if it does not work evenly across the side, adjust the number of stitches you need to skip between the puff stitches (i.e. skip 2 instead of three stitches)
  • Weave in ends as needed.
