The Sprig Stitch crochet pattern is an easy, lightweight design with a lacy look. Use it in almost any project.
I love the look of the Sprig stitch. It has a delicate texture that I have seen in some beautiful shawls and scarves. It is double sided which makes it great for those reversible projects.
One of the other great things about it is its final edge. It features beautiful peaks that form an intricate edging all on its own. There is no need to go back at the end of the project to add one. It’s not shown in the photo below, but head further down to the video tutorial where I show the pattern in detail.
The Materials:
For this tutorial today, I will be using a small amount of Heatherly by KnitPicks and WeCrochet in a single colour. You are also able to work this stitch in a single colour or more. The Heatherly yarn is a medium/worsted weight yarn that is a wool blend. Along with my worsted weight yarn, I will also be working with a 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook.

Ch – Chain
Dc – Double Crochet
Lp – Loop
Rpt – Repeat
Sc – Single Crochet
Sk – Skip
Sl st – Slip stitch
Sp – Space
Yo – Yarn over
Pattern Notes:
This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a single colour.
This pattern is written in American crochet terms.
To begin, make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch pattern, you will need a multiple of four chains, plus three (4+3) for your turning chain.
For example, ch 27.
Row One:
2 sc in the 4th ch from your hook, ch 2, 2 sc in the next st, *sk the next 2 sts, 2 sc in the next st, ch 2, 2 sc in the next st; Rpt from * across until 2 sts remain, sk the next st, sc in the final st. Ch 3, turn.
Row Two:
*[2sc, ch 2, 2sc] in the next ch-2 sp; Rpt from * across to the final ch-3 sp, sc in the final ch-3 sp. Ch 3, turn.
And that’s it!
Simply repeat row 2 for the rest of the pattern. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
