The Herringbone Double Crochet Stitch Pattern is another way to add a unique texture to your crochet project.
Last week, we took a look at the herringbone half double crochet which gives a mesmerizing look to your crochet project. The Herringbone double crochet stitch pattern today gives this same look with a taller stitch.

One thing to not when working this crochet stitch is that the fabric that it creates is a lot looser than that of the herringbone half double crochet stitch. Your fabric is going to have a lot of drape depending on the fibre used and it’s also going to have a little bit of stretch.
Also note that if you are working it from a foundation chain, then your swatch will turn out a little wider than the simply foundation chain you started with. It may take a little experimentation to get the desired length.
Still, you may wish to try this stitch in many projects including blankets, shawls, scarves and more!
The Materials:
For this tutorial today, I will be using a small amount of Heatherly by KnitPicks and WeCrochet in a single colour. You are also able to work this stitch in a single colour or more. The Heatherly yarn is a medium/worsted weight yarn that is a wool blend. Along with my worsted weight yarn, I will also be working with a 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook.

Pattern Notes:
This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in a single colour.
This pattern is written in American crochet terms.
The turning ch does not count as a stitch.
To begin, make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch pattern, you may use any number of stitches for your foundation chain.
For example, ch 31.
Row One:
In the 3rd ch from your hook work your first HerDc (See “Stitches and Abbreviations” above), HerDc in the next st and in each st across. Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn.
Row Two:
HerDc in the 1st st at the base of your turning ch, HerDc in the next st and in each st across (leaving the turning ch-2 unworked). Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn.
And that’s it!
For the rest of the pattern simply repeat row 2. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
