Learn how to crochet the Double Double Crochet V Stitch. You will love this modern spin on a classic crochet stitch!
The Double Double Stitch is a fun twist on a classic double crochet V stitch. We learned how to work the Classic Double Crochet V Stitch this past Sunday. These V stitches are a great stitch for every crocheter to have in their repertoire.
The main difference between this stitch and our stitch last week is the lack of chain stitches. This creates a tighter v-stitch that has a little more of a solid design. To add an extra ounce of interest to the stitch, we will be working our Double Double V Stitch today in multiple colours. You can of course work it in a single colour, if you wish, or in multiple.

When working the stitch pattern in multiple colours, when changing colours you may fasten off at the end of each row or reattach. Depending on the project and if there will be an edging, however, you may also wish to leave the colours attached and carry them carefully along the sides without fastening off each time. This is what I demonstrate in the video tutorial below.
The final fabric will be the same on both sides and it’s going to be fairly quick to work up. These are only a couple of reasons for why this stitch pattern is popular for blankets!

The Materials:
For this tutorial today, I will be using a small amount of Heatherly by KnitPicks and WeCrochet in a single colour. You are also able to work this stitch in a single colour or more. The Heatherly yarn is a medium/worsted weight yarn that is a wool blend. Along with my worsted weight yarn, I will also be working with a 5 mm (H/8) crochet hook.

Double Double Stitch Crochet Pattern:
Stitches and Abbreviations:
Ch – Chain
Dc – Double Crochet
Rpt – Repeat
Sk – Skip
Sl st – Slip stitch
Sp – Space
Yo – Yarn over
Pattern Notes:
This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial and it may be worked in one colour or many. I will be working this pattern in three colours labelled A, B and C.
This pattern is written in American crochet terms.
The turning ch does not count as a stitch.
To begin, make a slip knot and make a foundation chain. For this stitch pattern, you will need an even number of stitches for your foundation chain.
For example, ch 30.
Row One:
2 dc into the 4th ch from your hook, *sk the next ch, 2 dc in the next st; Rpt from * across until 2 sts remain, sk the next st, dc in the final st switching to colour B. With colour B, ch 3 (counts as a dc), turn.
Row Two:
With colour B, sk the 1st st, *2 dc in the space between the next 2 sts, sk the next st; Rpt from * across ending with a dc in the top of your turning ch switching to colour C. With colour C, ch 3, turn.
Row Three:
With colour C, sk the 1st st, *2 dc in the space between the next 2 sts, sk the next st; Rpt from * across ending with a dc in the top of your turning ch switching to colour A. With colour A, ch 3, turn.
Row Four:
With colour A, sk the 1st st, *2 dc in the space between the next 2 sts, sk the next st; Rpt from * across ending with a dc in the top of your turning ch switching to colour B. With colour B, ch 3, turn.
And that’s it!
For the rest of the pattern, simply repeat rows 2-4. Fasten off, weave in your ends.
