The Fleur de Lys stitch is a textured crochet stitch, often seen worked in two different colours as it will be here today.

This stitch is quite unique especially when it is worked in two different colours.  The Fleur de Lys is made up of a variety of front and back post stitches which makes this stitch a great one to try for an intermediate crocheter.

Of course, there will be a video tutorial at the end should you run into trouble!

Materials:

For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Cotton Aran by Paintbox Yarns. It is an aran weight yarn. The hook shown here and in the video below is a 5mm Clover Armor Hook. However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose.

The Fleur de Lys Stitch:

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial.

To begin, make a slip knot and then chain your desired number of chains.  For this stitch pattern you will need a multiple of six stitches plus three for your foundation chain.

You will also need two different colours of yarn to which I will refer as Colour A and Colour B.

NOTE: You will be alternating between each colour throughout.  At the end of each row, even when switching to the new colour, there is no need to fasten off.

Row One:

With colour A, skip the first two chains (Counts as a double crochet), double crochet into the next chain.  *Chain one, skip the next two chains, single crochet into the next chain, chain one, skip the next two chains **, work three double crochet into the next chain.

Repeat from * across ending the last repeat at **, work two double crochet into the last chain.  Do not turn.

Row Two:

With colour B, join the yarn into the top of the turning chain at the start of the previous row.  Chain one, single crochet into the same place, * chain two, work a back post raised cluster.

To work your back post raised cluster, holding back the last loop on each stitch, work one back post double crochet around the post of the next double crochet, skip the chain-one, double crochet into the top of the next single crochet, skip the next chain-one, back post double crochet around the next double crochet (you will have four loops on your hook), yarn over and draw through all four loops on your hook.  Your back post raised cluster is now complete.

Chain two, single crochet in the next double crochet.  Repeat from * across to the end.  Turn.

Row Three:

Drop colour B and pick up colour A.  With colour A, chain three (counts as a double crochet), double crochet into the first stitch, * chain one, skip the next two chains, single crochet into the next cluster, chain one, skip the next two chains**, three double crochet in the next single crochet.

Repeat from * across ending the last repeat at **, two double crochet into the last single crochet.  Do not turn.

Row Four:

Pick up colour B.  With colour B, chain one, single crochet into the same stitch, * chain two, work a front post raised cluster.

To work your front post raised cluster, holding back the last loop on each stitch, work one front post double crochet around the post of the next double crochet, skip the chain-one, double crochet into the top of the next single crochet, skip the next chain-one, front post double crochet around the next double crochet (you will have four loops on your hook), yarn over and draw through all four loops on your hook.  Your front post raised cluster is now complete.

Chain two, single crochet into the next double crochet.

Repeat from * across to the end.  Turn.

Row Five:

Pick up colour A, with colour A chain three (counts as a double crochet), double crochet into the first stitch, * chain one, skip the next two chains, single crochet into the next cluster, chain one, skip the next two chains**, three double crochet into the next single crochet.

Repeat from * across ending last repeat at **, two double crochet into the last single crochet.

Do not turn.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern, repeat rows two to five.  Fasten off and weave in your ends.
