The Fan and Bobble Stitch is a pretty stitch featuring easy crochet fan stitches interspersed between fun bobble stitches.

The stitch is beautiful! I believe it would be gorgeous worked in a variety of projects including garments and accessories such as summer tops and bags, or even in larger shawls and blankets.

The stitch pattern is a four row repeat which will stagger the bobble and fan stitches so that they are not stacked up on top of one another.  I recommend ending the pattern on a row three or row five which would result in a beautiful fan edging.

the fan and bobble crochet stitch worked in pink yarn

Materials:

For this tutorial today I will be using a small amount of Pima Cotton Yarn by Lion Brand Yarn. It is a worsted weight yarn. The hook shown in the video below is a 5 mm Clover Armour Crochet Hook. However you may use any hook and yarn combination you choose.

The Fan and Bobble Stitch:

This stitch is worked in rows in this tutorial.

To begin, make a slip knot and then chain your desired number of chains.  For this stitch pattern you will need a multiple of six stitches and then add two for your foundation chain.

Row One:

Single Crochet into the second chain from your hook and into each chain across.

Chain three (which counts as a double crochet stitch) and turn your work.

Row Two:

*Double crochet in each of the next five stitches, Bobble Stitch in the next stitch.

To work the bobble stitch, yarn over and insert your hook into the indicated stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop.  Yarn over and insert hook in same stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop four more times, yarn over and draw through all eleven loops on your hook.  Bobble Stitch is now made.

Repeat from * across, double crochet in the final stitch.

Chain three (counts as a double crochet stitch) and turn.

Row Three:

Work three double crochet into the first stitch.

*Skip the next two double crochet, single crochet into the next double crochet, skip the next two stitches, work seven double crochet into the next bobble stitch.

Repeat from * across to the final stitch, work four double crochet in the final stitch.

Chain three and turn your work.

Row Four:

Double crochet into each of the next two stitches, * skip the next double crochet, bobble in the next single crochet stitch, skip the next double crochet, double crochet in each of the next five double crochet stitches.

Repeat from * across to the end of the row, double crochet in each of the final three stitches.

Chain one and turn.

Row Five:

Single Crochet in the first double crochet, * skip the next two double crochet stitches, work seven double crochet in the next bobble stitch, skip the next two double crochet, single crochet in the next double crochet stitch.

Repeat from * across, chain three and turn your work.

Row Six:

*Skip the next double crochet stitch, double crochet in each of the next five double crochet stitches, skip the next double crochet, bobble in the next single crochet.

Repeat from * across, skip the next double crochet and double crochet in the final stitch.

Chain three and turn your work.

And that’s it!

For the rest of the pattern, repeat rows three to six.  I recommend ending this pattern on a row three or row five for a pretty edging!
