Evergreen Bookmark Crochet Pattern

The Evergreen Bookmark Crochet Pattern is an easy crochet bookmark that you can make using some simple yarn scraps!

Sometimes I find it hard to toss or give away the scraps and small amounts of yarn that I have left over from a larger project. And I am sure I am not alone! Not too long ago I finished the samples of a couple of projects that will be post on Rich Textures Crochet later this year that used the Valley Tweed Yarn by Rowan. I love this yarn and was left with some small amounts that I knew I had to keep.

I started using some of these partial skeins of yarn to make bookmarks for the books I was working my way through which included designing this Evergreen Bookmark Crochet Pattern.

The Evergreen Bookmark is a simple crochet design. It’s completed in only a few rows and features an interesting design created with spike stitches. There is lots of room to play with the colour – work it in one colour, two as I have, or more. I added a tassel to the end just to dress it up a little bit more.

Evergreen Bookmark Crochet Pattern:

Skill Level: Easy

Gauge:  N/A

Finished Size: Approximately .75 x 8 inches, excluding tassel.

Yarn: Valley Tweed by Rowan® (100% Wool; 1.75 oz, 50 g; 226 yds, 207 m). Fingering Weight (3). You will need 2 different colours, approximately 20-25 yards total.

Hook: Size 11 (3 mm) hook.

Notions: Yarn Needle

Stitches and Abbreviations:

Ch – Chain

Cone St – Cone Stitch (Insert hook in the stitch indicated, yarn over and draw up a look.  Yarn over and insert your hook under the stitch two rows below.  Yarn over and draw up a loop to the height of the single crochet stitch. Yarn over and pull through all the loops on your hook.  Cone Stitch made.)

Lp – loop 

Rpt – Repeat

Sc – Single Crochet

Sk – Skip 

Sl st – Slip stitch

Sp – space

Yo – Yarn over

Pattern Notes:

  • Pattern is written in American English terms.
  • Pattern is worked in rows.
  • Ch 1 at beginning of row does not count as a Sc.
  • Weave in ends as needed

Free Crochet Pattern:

With colour A, ch 40.

Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from your hook and in each ch across.  Ch 1, turn.

Rows 2-3: Sc in the first st and in each st across.  Ch 1, turn.

Row 4: Sc in the 1st st and switch to colour B (do not fasten off colour A, but work the rest of the row over top of the colour A as you carry it along).  With colour B, work a cone st (See “Stitches and Abbreviations”) in each st across until 1 st remains.  Switch to colour A, sc in the final st.  Ch 1, turn.

Row 5: With colour A, sc in the 1st st and in each st across.

Fasten off.  Weave in ends.

Add a tassel if desired.
