Welcome to week one of the 2025 Wonderful Hats Crochet Along! Today we will work the Deep River Beanie crochet pattern.
The Wonderful Hats crochet along is in it’s sixth year! This yearn we have the pleasure of learning to make four new crochet hat patterns and their matching scarves or neck warmers.
If this is your first time hearing about the crochet along. You may wish to check out the introductory post here.
The Deep River Beanie today is one of four crochet hat patterns this year. It features a double thick brim (that can be adjusted to a single) and a beautiful texture of twisted double crochet stitches and half double crochet stitches worked in the third loop.

For the hat, you will need about 300 yards of a medium/worsted weight yarn as well as a 5mm (H/8) crochet hook. I will provide the details about the specific yarn I used in the photos down below.
The hat is worked from the brim up and is sized to fit an adult head with a 20-22 inch circumference. When worn the hat does feature a little bit of slouch.

Pattern Notes:
- Pattern is written in American English terms.
- Brim of hat is worked in rows, body of hat is worked in rounds.
- Ch 1 at beginning of round does not count as stitch.
- Turn at the end of each round AS INDICATED.
- Weave in ends as needed.
- OPTIONAL: Brim of hat may be worked using either single crochet stitches or half double crochet stitches instead of the slip stitches. You may also choose to begin with a brim that you will not fold up. In this case, start with a ch 10 and then work your brim.
- To change the size of your beanie, work the first hdc round of the hat body in multiples of 2.
